Democrats saddled with a pathetically weak House leader

In the middle of Trump’s first week in his second round as wannabe dictator, Democrats turned to the Democratic leader in the House to engage in the fight. This was his response:

Presidents come and Presidents go.

Through it all.

God is still on the throne.

If the quote is authentic, it does not say that the sky fairy will save us. It says, nothing in our government really matters because it will all be settled in the afterlife.

Sorry, that is 100% unacceptable, no matter what you believe about the supernatural. Jeffries job is to lead the House in opposition to this existential threat. If he thinks it is acceptable to just wait until we all die and have a personal meeting with God who will explain how this was all his will, working in mysterious ways, then Jeffries should resign his post right this minute.

I cannot imagine any context where these words would ever be even remotely acceptable.

While I don't share his religion, the statement is meant to say that even though things are hard now, there's still hope because in their religion, god is the source of hope and good and thus the current difficulty will eventually pass.

https://dailyencouragement.wordpress.com/2010/07/30/gods-still-on-the-throne/

I don't agree with the source of comfort being a deity will save us (I think it will be the hard work of good people), but I at least appreciate the sentiment that Trump isn't the end of the country.

I don't believe that "God is on his throne." I don't believe that Trump might not be the end of this country.

I think that's a disgraceful tweet from a Democratic leader. He's not our pastor. He's supposed to be the Democratic leader in the House. He's being paid to be political, not religious. He has a right to his religious beliefs, but not to his own job description.

If I sent a message like that at work instead of doing my job I would be fired immediately.

- Preaches the above nonsense; a nonsense “fuck you” quote in a time people are terrified and seeing their lives ripped apart in front of them.

- Holds a press conference and maintains a quiet, calm demeanor while saying absolutely nothing of substance to help people feel better. It was just feel good, non-committal, corporate motivational speaker-level hogwash.

- Declines to throw support behind Democrats like AOC who are speaking out. Instead, the party elects a 70-year-old guy who no one has ever heard of, and, probably never will.

As a trans, gay, woman, I don’t feel heard on any front. No one does. Anyone who claims that Democrats are fighting Trump or in any way representing them right now is either delusional or trying to spin the current situation due to some odd loyalty to the Democratic Party.

It’s rough right now. We’re all just cast astray with no one to speak for us.

We’re losing the narrative of a principled opposition. Being passive in the face of gross incompetence and misinformation is a mistake. The GOP is a death cult and Dems must get into the fight.

We should have opposed EVERY nominee thru unanimous consent - delayed, stalled and blocked. There are tools Dems could use and they’re rolling over instead.

It’s demoralizing the base and fueling the GOP.

to make Rep. Jeffries look bad is not fair to the the Minority Leader or to our party as Rep. Jeffries has a strong hand in whether bills pass in the House because of the weak Speaker's water thin majority.

Consider that and consider that Rep. Jeffries knows what's at stake and is not running around with his hair on fire and exaggerating a quote taken out of context.

It’s about messaging. It’s getting Dems (and the base aka us) aligned for a united opposition/action instead of relying on gawd.

This passivity is maddening. Senate Dems could have massively slowed and created friction for every nominee through unanimous consent for example. And they just rolled over.

They spent months telling us Trump and the GOP are a mortal threat to our democracy. Time to step up into the fight because a lot of us are already getting hurt

Time to figure out how to operate with wannabe dictator/white suprmacist with Nazis in his cabal, and who has appointed insane, unqualified cabinet members.

The reality is that people need to feel the pain from Trump to wake up and get serious about voting and stop blaming our side when they choose to elect people that tell them they will make their lives worse. Symbolic delay tactics and other things are all well and good but we are at FAFO time. When eggs and milk continue to rise and go even higher that’s when I want our leaders to pounce. We are not quite two weeks in to this and we have to play the long game.
