Zach W. Lambert @ZachWLambert 4hThis photograph was taken two days ago at the FBI Academy in Quantico and submitted to the NYT under the condition of anonymity.
If a picture is usually worth a thousand words, this one is worth millions.

A photograph provided to The New York Times shows a glimpse of some of the changes underway at the F.B.I., specifically the F.B.I. Academy at Quantico on Wednesday.

(19,316 posts)I keep thinking the maintenance worker should have used his paint roller to form a swastika as he covered over the words with that dull gray color.

(384 posts)You don't have to use a tray. Pro painters usually use a grid that is hung on the inside of the bucket, like this.
And as long as you're not going wild with your roller, you don't need much of a drop cloth when you're painting a wall.
Also, if that was photoshopped, they were pretty meticulous to get the reflection on the floor correct (includes the edges already trimmed in, etc).

(31,464 posts)I have seen too much AI stuff lately and am a lousy painter.

(53,551 posts)with AI images on social media, I've become skeptical of most photographs.
Unfortunately, AI will get better and in the near future, most people won't know what is real and what is fake. It will go way beyond Facebook memes. We should be very concerned.

(344 posts)Reading some posts here I think we are all becoming fatigued with trying to figure out if a statement is true or a picture is AI or manipulated. Short video

(3,990 posts)Enlarge it. There is a halo around the left side of his body. Tell tale sign of Photoshop fuckery(not by a pro). I am a pro. This is weak sauce.

(20,811 posts)I didn't notice that until I expanded the view. I'm sure that picture is being circulated by every right-wing zealot in the country. I'm not, however, accusing the OP of being a right-wing zealot. I certainly would have accepted it as a sign of the fascist Trump administration if not for your keen eye.

Let's not be our own false info outlet.

(94,672 posts)...and you have no actual proof that it's something other than what NYT says it is.

I think this is an apt metaphor for the times. Some thoughtful words, arranged artistically, being covered by drab grey paint.
Oh, and by a white guy, too.
bigtree
(94,672 posts)...possible, but it's part of a report about Patel's confirmation.
Caption says this image was taken at Quantico.

Also, it's no big deal to get a few, or even a lot, of paint drops on a terrazzo floor like that. It just wipes right off. If that was carpet, he'd have a much bigger drop cloth.

(94,672 posts)...but thanks for playing.

(9,372 posts)the Times is not even claiming it's real. "A photograph provided to the New York Timwe." "PROVIDED" by whom? under what circumstances? If it was provided by a reliable source under conditions of anonymity, they might have said so.

(10,438 posts)I know NYT has gone to shit lately, but even I don't think they've sunk so low as to allow a fake photoshopped photo make it through their editing process...
bigtree
(94,672 posts)...you need proof, and you need more than your word.
It's your accusation. Prove it with something more than conjecture.
Until then, asserting on a public forum that it's fake is misinformation. It just is.

(15,771 posts)I no longer want to be a part of this world. I'm scared of where we're going. And I'm too sick and disabled to fucking take care of myself. If I lose my medicine or my medical coverage and I'm just going to off myself because I can't live like that. It's bad enough as it is in between shots. I'm so distraught today I didn't need to see this

Im not sure where you live - but at least I feel in my state of California, Californians will stick together and help each other out.
I cant sugar coat things - its going to be bad times ahead. I hope you have some family or friends or neighbors you can turn to. So many people are going to be hit and the only way to survive is to come together with trusted people.
Please know you are not alone.

(20,811 posts)will do a little "decorating" on their own.
I have a fair amount of hope for the generation that's currently in primary school. They were raised very differently than previous generations. I see a world of differences in what my grandchildren have been taught.
Of course, hate, greed, and all those other undesirable character traits always seem to bleed through later in life.
Hopefully, a solid background of acceptance and inclusion will steer them in a different direction. We can't give up hope. We can NEVER give up hope!

(27,322 posts)There are young people who are still being raised in racist, sexist ways; but maybe less in various areas!
And some get to "meet" different people on line, if not in person that may eventually change their minds.
Others are taught a more expansive, inclusionnary way of life from the get go by family, /or school. They that pov for life!
(I did from family, school too.)

(42,037 posts)This scene doesnt look authentic to be. The man is not using professional equipment. How did he get the paint on the roller? Did he just dip it in the can? Not an inch of painters tape. A tiny little strip of some material on the floor rather than an actual drop cloth. The man is standing at an awkward angle and dressed inappropriately. There isnt even a paint stick in sight to stir the paint. Nope.
