Read he is trying to get access to the payment system.
I gather this is completely within the realm of possibility now.

An even better question - has anyone in the Democratic leadership come up with any ideas or proposals to get this filthy punks hands off of our government?
I'm listening.

(2,937 posts)tend to often be retired white men (and women) who are under-educated and therefore not receiving pensions from high-paying professional jobs are they aware that they will also lose their SS? They will be homeless when they cant make their mortgage or rent payments, they will not be able to afford the expensive food (such as there will be with the trump taxes on imports) in the grocery stores OR are they, as usual, utterly and completely in the dark about this whole thing since FOX and other RW sources are never going to tell them? I guess it will be the ultimate Finding Out if that is the case.

(10,165 posts)have money taken out their social security check each month for Medicare. In 2025 it of course goes up again..now $185.00 per month. Doing the math that's approx $12.4 BILLION per month that would stop flowing into the program from people over 65. Some will be on SS at 62 but if I remember right the Medicare deduction isn't taken out until turning 65.

(1,492 posts)But if he orders the military to go into Blue States to suppress the Resistance that would be an illegal order and there might be a rebellion in the military. (1,492 posts)Democrats scorted out of Congress is a milder possibility. Summary execution for "treason" by a Trump controlled military is also a possibility. This is how Nazis and Fascists act. My main hope is that if Trump takes such an extreme action that there would be a rebellion in the military. Pro-Trump soldiers and officers versus anti-Trump soldiers and officers. Soldiers loyal to Trump versus soldiers loyal to the Constitution and their Oaths.

Also, many people rely on SS as their sole retirement income, some use it as a supplement to enhance their retirements. Taking that away from either of these groups is going to play havoc in some states on the economy, retirees spend money on food, clothing and essentials. Those that use it as a supplement have more money for restaurants, entertainment and travel.
They would be shooting themselves in the foot implementing this as they watch the economy tank.

If the grants and research stipends were frozen by the OMB memo, whoever is impacted should contact an attorney and have them communicate to the court or courts that issued the injunction . Posting on Bluesky is not an effective way of enforcing the law. Injunctions are not self-enforcing. If they are violated, the court needs to know through proper channels.

(8,887 posts)As far as can be ascertained by a very disparate group of researchers and research teams nationwide. Theres no organizing collective thats tracking this - its just a lot of people reporting and putting the pieces together.

(4,746 posts)My sister was in a nursing home and she was private pay. When the Medicaid payments stopped the payments to the facility stopped for a huge percentage Of the residents. , the extra aides and nurses stopped coming and supplies to patients stopped arriving. It was immediate. The staff was completely dejected as people were laid off. The facility manager was physically ill from the worry about how far and long these cuts would stand. The effects were immediate and devastating. If they attempt a national shutdown of these benefits it will get ugly in a matter of days but emergencies will happen on day one. The community gets back 100% of the Social Security payments of a large percentage of the residents. Every business will feel it, utility companies will feel it, groceries, pharmacies and home health services will come to a screeching halt. The people who still have jobs and income coming in will be affected as well as local business collapses around them. 100% ugly for everyone but the people raiding the fund.
Baron2024
(1,492 posts)Killing Social Security would kill the economy and cause an immediate national emergency in health care and human services just as you describe. I would hope that there would be national outrage and a national uprising. When elderly people are starving in empty nursing homes across the country, that should be the lead story on national news. I would hope that there would be an immediate and outraged response across the entire country. These MAGA Fascists are threatening everyone's family, many grandparents. I can't imagine that there would not be a very strong national reaction, and a non-partisan one as well. There are plenty of Republicans whose parents and grandparents depend on Social Security.
Hope22
(4,746 posts)Baron2024
(1,492 posts)Blue run states could take some emergency action. For example, a Governor could declare a statewide moratorium on evictions to protect the elderly and the disabled from being kicked out of their residences. A state government could implement a state wide emergency food program to help feed the same people. This would be hard to fund and difficult to implement but a competent Governor and state government could probably do it.

(3,943 posts)One doesn't see exactly where or how to move. Believe me, this is true. Each act, each occasion, is worse than the last, but only a little worse. You wait for the next and the next. You wait for one great shocking occasion, thinking that others, when such a shock comes, will join with you in resisting somehow. You don't want to act, or even talk, alone; you don't want to 'go out of your way to make trouble.' Why not? Well, you are not in the habit of doing it. And it is not just fear, fear of standing alone, that restrains you; it is also genuine uncertainty.
Many, many times since it all happened I have pondered that pair of great maxims, Principiis obsta and Finem respice 'Resist the beginnings' and 'Consider the end.' But one must foresee the end in order to resist, or even see, the beginnings. One must foresee the end clearly and certainly and how is this to be done, by ordinary men or even by extraordinary men? Things might have changed here before they went as far as they did; they didn't, but they might have. And everyone counts on that might.
And one day, too late, your principles, if you were ever sensible of them, all rush in upon you. The burden of self-deception has grown too heavy, and some minor incident, in my case my little boy, hardly more than a baby, saying 'Jew swine,' collapses it all at once, and you see that everything, everything, has changed and changed completely under your nose. The world you live in your nation, your people is not the world you were born in at all. The forms are all there, all untouched, all reassuring, the houses, the shops, the jobs, the mealtimes, the visits, the concerts, the cinema, the holidays. But the spirit, which you never noticed because you made the lifelong mistake of identifying it with the forms, is changed. Now you live in a world of hate and fear, and the people who hate and fear do not even know it themselves; when everyone is transformed, no one is transformed. Now you live in a system which rules without responsibility even to God. The system itself could not have intended this in the beginning, but in order to sustain itself it was compelled to go all the way.
