the US will no longer exist as a Democratic Republic, beacon of freedom to the world.
It may already be too late.

For clarity - they took the same oath The Felon did. Someone takes their oath seriously.
See other posts on this thread.
My dad was one of the First Green Berets - I spent my formative years in West Germany - including 1977 when the enemy was funding terrorist attacks against Americans in West Germany.
We ALL come from different backgrounds and experiences at DU.
Mine included being taught/brainwashed to hate Communists with a direct target of the Russians.
Musk and the Felon are beholden to them. So I dehumanize both.
Is that clear?
They are enemies to every single member of Democratic Underground.

(131 posts)There's no doubt Trump is doing many things we don't like. I may be wrong but I don't think he's breaking the constitution. I do wish he would slow down the frantic pace he's been on since he took office. As soon as I digest something he did a a mere hour ago, he's already done something new. It's maddening. Almost impossible to keep up with everything he's doing. I'm going to do my best to not let any of this get to me and try to hang on till the mid terms and hopefully we can gain control of the House or Senate and slow him down.

(38,054 posts)I believe we have just one CIA agent who is willing to leak a memo.
One Captain or Major who has the memo to turn against the American people.
Something is afoot (I believe we agree on that) - but we need another person to leave 100 pages - but this time - on AP News or The Guardians desk.
There is no Ellsberg embedded. My dad was Green Beret (first class onwards) -
He loved a country that hated the color of his skin. Someone out there knows something and has receipts. Someone is willing to break the law. Someone has something to turn the Military and CIA against this Admin.
I'm going to piss off folks who have empathy for Russians - I don't care. I lived in West Germany in the 70's as a little girl. We knew who our *spooks* were as little kids.

It is the music of the people
Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart
Echoes the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start
When tomorrow comes!
There is more at stake for me and the intergenerational wealth handed down from my great great grandfather buying his first 100 acres where our family had been enslaved on since 1832 in Alabama. His grandfather had been "sold down the river" from Virginia.

William Gustafson
(553 posts)If you get arrested for any "violation" without carrying a gun (traffic stop, jay walking, selling cigarettes on the streets), and they think you are a danger, they can take your guns from your home and not give them back... whether you are a danger or not, the police can decide that you are, and you lose your guns. I own a few myself for hunting, but even the second amendment folks I know would not be for this... I agree with you that not all gun owners will be labeled "Dangerous" , but its who is deciding you are.... a Judge can, but the authority's shouldn't...
And Bundy and Trump want to take your guns away, no matter what.

(24,486 posts)Here in Wisconsin in '16, there were a lot of Democrats who were so convinced that Hillary would beat Trump that they felt that freed them up to vote for a third party candidate like Jill Stein of the Green Party (who thinks Republicans who didn't vote for Trump would be anxious to vote for the Green Party?). Stein received more votes than Trump's margin of victory here in Wisconsin. This was done by Democrats to Democrats and it's completely likely that is happened again in Stein's loss.
Where did those 6 million votes go that Biden got in '24 that Harris didn't get? Why did it appear to be a victory celebration at Howard University on election night like Harris had it in the bag?

(43,307 posts)TV would be nice. But .
Things like this have to be more stealth because they are more complicated than we can see when they're in motion. And no one in this lawless administration should get any kind of signal. I think it's better that they work behind the scenes.
There are plenty of US military who would follow Biden/Austin/Brown into the abyss of a military coup rather than live in dishonor under Trump/Hegseth as they (in no particular order) give illegal orders, dismantle DOJ, FBI, and through those, the judicial system and US Constitution.

This quote:
"Lutnick echoed those remarks Wednesday.
If Canada is going to rely on America for its economic growth, how about you treat our farmers, our ranchers and our fishermen with respect? he said. And so I think the president and our Trump administration is focused on improving the lives of our producers.

(25,647 posts)It will only take Trump's mafia about 6 months to fully implement "Project 2025" -- ALL of it. By the end of February, enough damage will already have occurred to make resistance extremely difficult. As time goes on, the ability of any successful action to address any given problem diminishes proportionally. So we're on the clock... tick tock.
Honestly, I don't think we succeed in salvaging anything important before it's too late. This country is going full Gilead by August.

(25,647 posts)As they should be, really -- if they fail, the damage to their various causes would be considerable, with some going to prison and plenty of lawsuits for everyone involved. Rudy 2.0, and they don't want that.
But they have the political power, supportive federal courts, the financial backing, and a stranglehold on media. This is the perfect time to shoot the moon. If they win, it's for all the marbles. If they lose, the Republican party effectively dissolves, along with some large oligarchic fiefdoms. Big-ass stakes.
Right now they have a huge advantage, as a big chunk of the country didn't think they were serious early on and let them get away with all kinds of crap. As it dawns on them that the assholes meant every word, and shit continues to hit all kinds of fans from various angles, they'll have some regrets. That's the time when Democrats must have a strong coherent counter-narrative ready to go, maybe even a shadow-cabinet that produces regular critique of everything Trump's mafia does, enumerating the crimes and explaining how the shakedowns hurt people.
Thing is, the groundwork has to be complete before the end of February (I haven't seen signs of it happening yet), plus people need to see how they're impacted negatively by the policies (this does seem to be happening) and eager to hear an alternative (perhaps?) So it's pretty iffy overall.
We're playing "iffy" against "huge advantage". I don't like our chances.

social contract, in political philosophy, an actual or hypothetical compact, or agreement, between the ruled or between the ruled and their rulers, defining the rights and duties of each. In primeval times, according to the theory, individuals were born into an anarchic state of nature, which was happy or unhappy according to the particular version of the theory. They then, by exercising natural reason, formed a society (and a government) by means of a social contract.
Although similar ideas can be traced to the Greek Sophists, social-contract theories had their greatest currency in the 17th and 18th centuries and are associated with the English philosophers Thomas Hobbes and John Locke and the French philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau. What distinguished these theories of political obligation from other doctrines of the period was their attempt to justify and delimit political authority on the grounds of individual self-interest and rational consent. By comparing the advantages of organized government with the disadvantages of the state of nature, they showed why and under what conditions government is useful and ought therefore to be accepted by all reasonable people as a voluntary obligation. These conclusions were then reduced to the form of a social contract, from which it was supposed that all the essential rights and duties of citizens could be logically deduced.
Theories of the social contract differed according to their purpose: some were designed to justify the power of the sovereign, while others were intended to safeguard the individual from oppression by a sovereign who was all too powerful.
