Freeze your Credit

there are three companies that do Credit reports:
Equifax
Experian
TransUnion

Now that Musk has access to everyone's information, including Social Security numbers, they have probably already been sent to outsides with nefarious intent.

Freezing your credit will stop them from opening credit cards and other financial accounts in your name.

Read this soon before they take it down.

Seems I have to elaborate. Of course Musk is not going to scam your credit card, but the people now with total access to the Payment office are unqualified with no security clearance., The GSA employees have been frozen out.
That data is no longer secure, it will be out in the world.

he isn't going to scam our credit cards. But that info is going to be let out.
His people, none of whom has any security clearance, are now in the OPM offices, while the government employees have been frozen out.

is already in the hands of people overseas?

His people, not the government employees, now control the OPM, where 70 million Social Security recipients have their data.

is getting out of hand.
Elon Musk isn't going to steal your social security number. I don't think "jump the shark" gives it the credit it deserves.

On edit:
It should be stated that everyone should already have their credit locked for other reasons, namely all the fraud that has been going on for 20 years now. And doing so doesn't make you invisible, it just makes it not possible to run against your credit history

It’s a good idea to lock or freeze your reports with all three agencies.
( I once heard there is actually a little known fourth but don’t recall more than that)
Anyhow you can in my experience set up for free with Equifax & Transunion
To lock ( but I think they are moving it to freeze - per some email I got)
Experian- inable to lock you have to pay.
The lock enables you to login to your account slide a button to lock and unlock it takes effect basically instantly and you always get an email that it has happened at least how I set it up)
A freeze can be done for all three but at the time I set up it was more complicated - you had to contact each n one individually to freeze and unfreeze. And it took longer.

The way I understood the change for Equifax is basically the lock button will be replace with a freeze - so it will be instant.

I only wish experian would have that as a free feature not having to call them to have it done.

Sure some of the other features you get with the pay feature is nice

But sometimes the $ hurts.

I used to think that it would be nice to have the ability to login into one site for free and lock and unlock all three at once - so was thinking of a gov site for protection
But because of what is currently going in that Idea is in hold.

If anyone knows more if experian mow has the free easy to lock/ freeze by login in to acct let me
Know
Or if they know more about the move for Transunion & Equifax change to free. ( the Transunion email mentioned Equifax for some reason I didn’t understand )
