We have been taken over by Musk and an entrenched minority dictatorship.
A lot less happened in 1860 to make the South try to break free.
Can't someone in Vermont or California or Maine lead the way out of this star-spangled Dumpster fire??

(7,914 posts)As the states with the largest gross domestic product, their secession would cause significant disruption to the U.S. economy. While a state seceding is both highly improbable and unconstitutional, the growing debate could fuel national divisions.
"Disavowals do not erase the extensive evidence of Russian involvement in advancing this issue for their own anti-American strategic benefit.
"In 2016, Russian-linked social media accounts, including bots and troll farms associated with the Internet Research Agency, amplified CalExit narratives across platforms like Twitter and Facebook, particularly after the U.S. presidential election."

(15,314 posts)represent a GOOD idea?
(don't know exactly where you studied your history, but ...) It was a really , really sh*tty idea back then ... Not much of a model ... And certainly not a prescription that I (or any of my reasonable sane friends) are anxious to follow. Today - tomorrow - the day after ....

(280 posts)At the path that we are going America would either collapse and break apart on its own, it will be forced apart by Trump overreaching, or we accept living as subjects under a "National Conservative" dictatorship. Trump was not joking when he said you don't have to vote again. If the Democrats don't take Congress in 2026 any hope of restoring what was left of America is done.

(151,063 posts)Don't wish for what will destroy you. Secessionism has already been tried. It failed, and additional laws against it were created.
It's important to be realistic in times of crisis. False hope ends up just being false.

(441 posts)I don't think that would happen now.

(151,063 posts)I can't think of any reason for it not happening now. Please enlighten me. First, answer the question: Who is in charge of US military forces?

(280 posts)If the USD is dumped as the reserve currency and becomes worthless the states will probably start ignoring the Federal government. Including issuing their own currencies. I see Texas leaving first before any Northeastern state does. fElon and his pet orangutan already are dismantling the federal bureaucracy as we knew it.

(151,063 posts)I don't think that's useful, really. So, I'm just going to ignore your post.
