The Rude Pundit: Note to Democrats: We're Freaking the Fuck Out and You're Not Helping Us Enough

Note to Democrats: We're Freaking the Fuck Out and You're Not Helping Us Enough

I know so many people who are scared to death or freaking the fuck out about all of the ways that the administration of Donald Trump (aka "Elon's Meat Puppet" ) is fucking with their lives like a deranged child pulling the wings off moths. In just the last week:

snip//

You have to show us action, even action that fails, so we know that you have our backs as we go through this shit. There's actually quite a bit that Democrats can do. If much of it is symbolic, well, symbolic acts inspire people. That's why they're done.

Have constituents in Republican states and districts flood their senators and representatives with calls and get them out to the townhall meetings. Make Republicans feel the heat of an angry electorate. File more lawsuits and make a big public deal about them and their purpose, and make sure you tie them to the Democratic Party, saying that you're trying to solve the problems the GOP is creating. Demand arrests of people who violate the law, like, you know, Elon Musk. Do something like going down to the Department of the Treasury and demanding to be allowed to have access to the same records that Musk is getting. Get arrested trying to do it, if you have to.

Most of all, stop making nice with the bastards.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar recently said that Americans want Democrats and Republicans to "find common ground," which is patently absurd. Americans don't give a fuck about that or they wouldn't have voted for the candidate who explicitly said that Democrats can go fuck themselves. So fuck that. Grind the working of the government to a standstill with on unanimous consent, with bill readings, with whatever weird shit you can do in the Senate for some ancient reason. Do not support a single nominee. Make Republicans own it all.

And use their shit against them.
Tariffs making prices go up? Propose a hike in the federal minimum wage, saying that it's unfair that working people have to pay for Trump's tariffs. Make that a big focus: Republicans are forcing you to spend more. Democrats want you to have more money. If conservatives try to say it'll hurt businesses, then ask them why CEOs are making billions of dollars while their employees are on SNAP benefits. Fuck it, go all in. Say you want to raise taxes on the super-wealthy to eliminate medical debt in this country. Have the fucking class war. Why not? What the fuck do you have to lose? Your donors? Your post-Congress jobs? Then fuck off.

Finally, don't abandon the people who need you. The only reason the GOP attack on trans people got any traction is because Democrats took the fucking bait instead of saying, "What fucking business is it of yours?" and moving on. The same goes for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Defending it is ridiculously easy (and Democrats have done a bad job explaining it). Instead, we get Democrats saying shit like "Maybe we need to just concentrate on bread-and-butter issues." That's tacitly admitting Republicans are right. Don't play on their fucking field. Bring the ball to your home stadium and make them come there. Minimum wage hike - that's bread and butter. You know what else would be bread and butter? A general strike.

It sucks. Everything suck right now. And every day is like lining up for the next forced face-fucking from these felonious freaks. It's gonna suck for a long time. So we need Democrats to get out there, in real life and not just online, and rally us. We need you to do that or a hell of a lot of us are going to be lost in our fear. Even if it all fails, at least it rallies us. Goddamn, we need it.

Oh, and, for the love the god, please stop putting Chuck Schumer out there. Just fucking stop.

1. It's got to be from the bottom-up instead of the top-down

2. It's got to be 100 fucking percent unified along a single idea, which is eliminating Trump AND Trumpism. It can't be "I hate Trump but I'll only join in if the Dems also center MY pet issue!" Because Repubs have been exploiting pet issues on the left to divide our support for decades now and it still keeps happening... And elected Dems need to stop straddling the fence with "I may hate Trump but I have to temper my comments because my seat is purple!"

I am in my 50s. Every movement or protest I have been involved in during my life has devolved into fighting due to this. And, to be specific, my experience has been with Left in general, not Democrats specifically. And the thought has crissed my mind that right wing plants were involved with an intent to undermine....

We are greedy and vain. We want to be in charge and we think only our issue is the most important.

You are correct in what you say. It is just that humans are still petty and vindictive. However, it seems like the level of community you are suggesting is all but gone around here. We have been programmed that we are the greatest thing since the invention of the wheel, and that has to be removed before we can do much of anything like you are suggesting.

Having said that...

You want the fence sitters to move? Make them. Primary anyone who is too busy with their own political survival. They are our reps. If they want the seat, defend the Constitution and the institutions. Stop letting them do anything. Even when they don't ask. Take a cue from those brave people at the USAID, who refused his flunkies entry, even though they know what is going to happen to them because of it.

Lastly, we need to remember one thing about past Democratic positions on our society. This 'high ground' crap is not going to accomplish anything. I am reminded of the old saying about the difference between the astronomer and the astronaut. One observes the heavens. The other lives in them.

Time to start living in them.

Press Conferences on the steps of the Capitol. Lawsuits challenging Trumps use of The International Emergency Economic Powers Act to add tariffs. Challenge Musk’s access to government data. He is a threat to our government. Let’s see some outrage. According to Bloomberg, Musk said DOGE was shutting down payments by the US Department of Health and Human Services to Lutheran Family Services, a faith-based charity that has been providing social services to refugees. DOGE is a made up thing. What the hell are Democrats just acting like it’s a government bureau. Get fucking real already. Jeez. Dems spent a year telling us Trump was a threat to democracy and in two weeks he is proving that true. So what did Dems do for that whole year to plan for this?

Time to get nasty and rebellious, open up the Dirty Playbook that Dems seem to have forgotten about.

The writing is on the wall, if things get into full swing, a lot of people out there will get a rude awakening.

Check shop prices.
Check your 401K over the next month. (You know, that ephemeral bucket of future money.)

I'm expecting major downturn in US and global stock markets. The ones your 401K depends on.
Been studying those for years, currently they are maxed out, but it's an uncertain nervous uplift.

Sure enough, the Aussie ASX200 opened up this Monday morning, 2% down in 20 minutes.
I'm factoring in a 20% drop over the next few weeks, with an associated 10% drop in my Super (401K equivalent)

Am I complaining? Nope, I was predicting it.
25 years of watching the markets gives me a bit of a 6th sense.

Really. When Biden was in office....when Obama was in office, they may have occasionally cooperated, but not often.

Why are Dems overall so eager find common ground with people who are LITERALLY supporting the destruction of the country? Of the economy? Who are eagerly putting into place people who are not only incompetent, but don't have the interest of the country as even a random thought once in a while?

And yet, common ground and cooperation is their watch word.

I understand the desire by some for democratic politicians to be out there pushing back on Trump’s agenda in loud and visual ways with protest votes and other things to show they’re “fighting” but I want a fulsome and well thought out plan to turn 2026 into a blue wave. We’re two weeks in to this mess and we have to be smart and have a plan. I still don’t think we have yet to fully understand why we lost in November and until we do we aren’t united in messaging and strategy. It is clear to me that just telling people how terrible Trump is is unfortunately not as effective as it once was. We all knew what this guy is his lackeys planned to do but all we heard about was about prices of eggs and milk. I have yet to hear those people complain now that both are even higher. The sad reality is that many people want exactly what Trump is doing and those that were conned into voting for him have to feel the pain and suffer like the rest of us before they realize that Republicans don’t care about them. I don’t wish pain on others but pain is a powerful motivator and many of these policies need to be felt by people before they wake the F up. I’m fed up with the constant cycle of Republicans breaking the country, Dems fix it only to be blamed for not being perfect and get voted out. We are in FAFO time.

There are plenty of us out here doing all we can, writing, calling our electeds and demanding they use every tool available to stop this coup in plain sight. And soon in person visits to offices and protests. It would be a helluva lot better if those at the top of our leadership food chain took note of this righteous annger at what is going on, and start actively opposing these bastards by all means necessary. As the Rude One says, silence or mean tweets is unacceptable. Brian Schatz took action today and others need to do the same along with visible public protest actions like showing up at the scene of the DOGE criminal occupation and demanding they vacate the premises they are illegally trespassing on, seeking immediate injunctive relief and introducing resolutions to cut off funding for all of these activities to name but a few, and the Rude One has given plenty of sensible other suggestions for action as has indivisible. So do it damnit, no excuses ✊🏼😡✊🏼

This is a coup by the oligarchs and fierce (non-violent) resistance is the only way to tamp this down with minimum loss of life. Doesn't help that such a large % of Americans seem just fine with the admin, but large numbers of people backed the King in 1776 as well. We can be assured, I think, that history is on our side.
