There are plenty of people who operate in government that have not been elected. But the authority always flowed from Department Heads that are appointed by an elected official (Secretaries, Judges, etc.) and confirmed by elected officials.
Elon Musk has not only not been elected, but has far too much power for someone who has not gone through the normal process of appointment and confirmation.

(1,492 posts)Musk's actions are unconstitutional. He is an agent of the Executive Branch. The Executive Branch can not withhold funds authorized by the Congress. This is a gross criminal violation of the Constitution. It is a crime and Musk and his DOGE Agents are guilty. Democrats should at the very least call for Musk to resign. Preferably they should call for his arrest.
