General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsFor years, thousands of people begged our politicians to get money out of politics
As everything moved to give people with the most money the most power: Citizens United, failed election finance reform, failed efforts to address wealth inequality.
And the responses to those pleas were either GOP: "Corruption is good, actually. Rich people are smart and moral" or Democratic: "We can just be a Little Corrupt without being Monstrously Corrupt, so shut up".
And now, here we are at the logical conclusion of money= political power. A drug-addled manchild, who once wrote some code for a website that became popular and then used his money and lies to give himself more and more power, is now our King. He can do whatever he wants, and what he wants is to destroy our government that so many have fought and died for. To help out his Russian oligarch boss Putin.
THIS is the fruit of letting money = speech and power. It was always going to end this way.

(19,413 posts)Getting ALL money out of politics should be voted on directly by Americans, not left up to the very people who benefit the most from the legalized bribery system we have now. The question should be put to voters on a national referendum, a simple yes or no vote: "Should all money be banned from politics?" Problem is, our thoroughly corrupted elected leaders would never allow such a referendum.
