Maybe this has been discussed before, apologies if so.
My suggestion is to that we comply to the letter and the intent of the current administration. We know that many of the directives are focused on 'those people'. You know, certain neighborhoods. Businesses that employ specific ethnic groups (landscapers, drywallers, plumbing and HVAC, farm workers).
I want to see ICE raids be fair, so raid the local HVAC guy, or the small independent mechanic. Not just the big agribusinesses that are targets of right wing hate. Try the small farm in Center county PA, the large dealership in Northern Virginia, or maybe the bouncing popular local nightspot.
It should all be equal, right? If someone for whatever reason needs to prove citizenship or legal status just because of where they work, that should be a requirement of everyone regardless of where they work. To do less admits that the motivation is not about immigration (which we know).
There has been some talk of Sanctuary Cities, which Pam Bondi addressed when she said Justice will "review the activities of all departments and agencies exercising civil or criminal enforcement authority in the United States
to identify instances where a department's or agency's conduct appears to have been designed to achieve political objectives or other improper aims rather than pursuing justice or legitimate governmental objectives,".
I can't disagree with that. All departments including even the smallest local police department in podunk USA, who chooses to refer a single person to immigration must refer all. If they don't then according to Bondi's directive would be identified as "conduct appears to have been designed to achieve political objectives".

(3,683 posts)"That should be a requirement of everyone." That already happened a few years back. Everyone on the farm had to prove to Homeland Security that they were legal.
It is not a good thing in any case. You are playing with fire and dramatically underestimating the threat. Your suggestion is not cute or funny.

(260 posts)I don't think my post was well thought out. My intention was to to take the current radical rhetoric which is against "those people" and make the old white rednecks like me suffer the same consequences, explicitly. Like having to prove my citizenship, during a stop and frisk (like that would happen), or you know, just showing up for work. Maybe if the small businesses that voted for Trump now have to comply with these new government regulations, and as the business owner show up to work has to prove he is a citizen, maybe it would change minds.
My response may not be well thought out either. Should I delete this post?

(20,316 posts)Not sure about the details but broadly I think its important to constantly be brainstorming ideas on how to resist, gum up the works etc. sometimes those ideas dont work other times theyre worthwhile.
