MSHSL will follow MN law on transgender athletes in sports, not Pres. Trump's order

MSHSL will follow MN law on transgender athletes in sports, not Pres. Trump's order

The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) says that transgender student-athletes' eligibility to participate in sports is determined by state law, not President Donald Trump's recent Executive Order banning transgender athletes from women's or girl's sports.

MSHSL says that the eligibility of transgender student-athletes is "determined by state law, through the Minnesota Human Rights Act and the Minnesota Constitution."

The organization will continue to abide by the anti-discrimination laws in the state, which doesn't allow discrimination based on gender identity.

Because of these state laws, students in Minnesota can participate in sports consistent with their gender identity, despite Trump's new Executive Order.

Minnesota high schools are saying no to legislating by fiat, that state law trump's an EO. {pun intended}

The Detroit Free Press did a piece on transgender high school athletes. The one year in question, they found 2 of them total and both were competing without compaints or incident.

It's simply not a huge issue deserving of a ton of attention and the individual cases can be handled by the governing bodies of sports in those states.

I'd been thinking there were thousands, maybe millions of kids pretending to be another gender just to play a sport.

I also read recently that some women's basketball team wouldn't hire a trans woman, but apparently women's sport teams regularly practice with guys. How bizarre is that?

The previous year, the number was 0. The fact is that there are an exceedingly small number of trans people who want to compete ini sports. And the overwhelming majority of them have no real advantage and are able to compete without incident. We're talking about a hand full of cases nationwide that is driving this who charade.
