Vanity Fair: Why Is Elon Musk So Hell-Bent on Bulldozing the Government?

Vanity Fair - Why Is Elon Musk So Hell-Bent on Bulldozing the Government? (Gift link)

Silicon Valley insiders tell Vanity Fair what they think is behind the mega-billionaire’s DOGE crusade. “Elon believes he should be emperor of the world,” one close associate says.

By Nick Bilton
February 7, 2025

If you’ve been wondering why Elon Musk, who is now the head of DOGE, the Department of Government Efficiency, has been holed up in an old government building in Washington, DC, spending nights and weekends surrounded by tech bros from Silicon Valley as he systematically dismantles parts of the federal government, specifically USAID, and is now setting his sights on other government agencies, you’re not alone.

This is the question I’ve been asking people who know and have worked with Musk in one form or another. The answers I’ve heard are surprisingly quite simple, but also utterly terrifying.

“Elon believes he should be emperor of the world, and this is his way of showing people what he’s capable of as emperor,” a close associate of Musk’s, who has worked with him for years and still speaks to him regularly, tells me. “He truly believes his way of handling the world is the best possible outcome for everyone in it.” In Musk’s mind, this person says, everything he’s done in his career to date has proven that thesis to be true—from Tesla’s electric cars reducing emissions and accelerating the transition to sustainable energy, to Neuralink’s efforts to help people with neurological disorders regain lost functions, to his belief that he single-handedly saved Twitter from collapse and turned it into a bastion of free speech, rescuing it from what he saw as the censorial grip of Jack Dorsey’s leadership.

We can argue how much Musk has made the world a better place until he lands on Mars, but the debate about his impact on the world, whether positive or negative, still doesn’t answer the question of why a man who could be luxuriating on a private island or floating in a zero-gravity chamber of his own making, or could literally buy anything he wants on planet Earth—or off planet Earth, for that matter—instead chooses to engage in a bureaucratic purge of historic proportions. And on top of that, why is he delighting in pulling funding from crucial government programs, working to shutter entire agencies, and slashing thousands of federal jobs with the casual ease of a CEO tweeting a doge meme?

“He is doing it because he likes wielding power more than anything else. It’s more fun to ruin hundreds of thousands of people’s lives than to ruin just hundreds of people’s lives,” a well-known Silicon Valley investor tells me.

You can't buy a longer life.
You can't force people to love you.
You can't think of anything else you really need.

Is power and domination really that satisfying?

Just like every psychopath who came before him who also thought they should be emperor of the world.

And every one of them failed. Some failed spectacularly and others failed quietly, but failed nonetheless.

for over 25 years. I've come to the conclusion that the real goal is to go back to feudalism in some form. They want society to be ran by the rich/elites that provide all the means of production. This means that you're property to this modern form of barons that own the resources, production and are your betters. This is why they want to give all power to the private sector over the public. They hate democracy. They consider it a mistake.

They want the president to more or less be a king for god but is very much controlled by the barons/elite rich.

If they win we'll lose our democracy and won't have much rights.

I know I’ve been thinking he’s approaching this like Twitter, killing it and then thinking he’s a successful business man because it transformed into a bastion of hate speech. Nice (?) to see that idea offered here as well. A new terrifying idea for me is that he thinks of takeovers like video games. 🎮

https://uinterview.com/news/after-elon-musk-shares-post-saying-high-status-males-should-run-government-social-media-users-accuse-him-of-rank-sexism/

Elon Musk has amplified a theory that states only “high-status males” can be trusted to run the government.

On Sunday, the tech-savvy billionaire reposted an anonymous post on X that appears to have been shared by the 4chan forum in 2021 without any supplementary data. The post argues that “only high T alpha males and aneurotypical people” have the potential to be free-thinkers.

Musk retweeted the screenshot after it was shared by the X account @AutismCapital, known for its right-wing content, commenting, “Interesting observation.”

The post, which was shared on September 1, referred to those who “can’t defend themselves physically (women and low T men)” as being “very malleable to “brute force manufactured consensus.”

The post concluded: “This is why a Republic of high-status males is best for decision-making. It is democratic, but a democracy only for those who are free to think.”

It's almost as though those angry men sat down at MALago and made a list of every incident, government agency, and person who has ever "mistreated" them, and now it's all about payback.

Even TSF's nominees for every position seem to have been selected by him because they were the people who would most piss off the libs.

19. Supreme Leader Musk
Fri Feb 7, 2025, 10:00 PM
Feb 2025

It is not just that Musk wants to be Emperor. Some megalomaniacs want to be Benevolent Dictators. Musk is not benevolent. He is either a Nazi or a Nazi sympathizer (not sure what the difference is). Unless you are a white male with some apparent level of intelligence you are a second class citizen at best, and maybe considered a subhuman. This is all part of Nazi ideology.

Part of the problem with Musk's attempts to blow up the federal government is that he apparently does not understand how government and the economy work together. The federal government is massive and integrated into the national and global economy. If you blow up the federal government you will end up blowing up the entire economy.

Of course with control of the federal Treasury he could just siphon off the money for himself and his companies. Which would enable him to bribe or strong arm just about anyone (which might explain why Trump seems to be turning into his puppet).

One solution might be a federal tax strike. If we can delay or deny our federal tax money to the Musk Trump Regime we could at least cut into the amount of funds that are available to Musk to abuse or steal. It is one of the biggest crimes in history that Musk is trying to pull off. He should be seized and arrested as soon as is humanly possible. Otherwise we should get used to calling him Supreme Leader Musk or some such title. Trump is just a dumb fascist stooge next to this megalomaniac.

Trump really is his puppet, so Musk can do as he likes to please himself. Musk is a classic example of overreach and despite successes, the Dunning-Kruger effect-- supreme overconfidence and self-belief.

He hasn’t, end of story. If you want me to take your article seriously stop pushing crap like that. He’s a psychopath and a crook and now a traitor, end of story. He didn’t do any of those things himself…Tesla was already there before him. He uses his money to bully and hurt people and to bloat his already over bloated ego. Some of it was made illegally no doubt, like the billion or so he got by swinging the election for os.

I'll offer up another reason.

I think Musk sees the government as being in the way of doing what he wants to do.

Whatever his goal (wealth/power/Mars colony), government and regulations are slowing him down.

Laws are going to prevent his robo-taxi fantasy to occur.

Laws are preventing him from cheaply dumping all his chemical waste into groundwater.*

Laws are preventing him from accumulating wealth even faster.

*Maybe not this one. I'm convinced that Musk has bought off all the local and state politicians in Texas so they look the other way when it comes to SpaceX. I'm betting that Bastrop county is going to get its own cancer cluster in the future...
