https://evmagazine.com/news/teslas-european-decline-musks-ev-giant-faces-strugglesTesla's sales in Europe are plummeting as rivals gain ground. Elon Musk's controversies, ageing models and market shifts challenge the EV leader
Tesla, once the dominant force in the European EV market, is experiencing a sharp decline in sales. The downturn has created an opening for competitors, including legacy automakers and emerging Chinese EV brands, to strengthen their foothold in Europe.
Sharp decline in sales across key markets
Recent data highlights Tesla's struggles across major European markets. In January 2025, it saw a significant drop in vehicle registrations:
Germany: Sales plummeted by 59.5%, with only 1,277 vehicles sold compared to 3,150 in January 2024.
France: A staggering 63.4% decline in sales.
UK: A more moderate 12% drop.
Netherlands: A 42.5% reduction in registrations.

(22,942 posts)3. I think this is the begining.
There will always be Musk Fans who will buy Teslas. There will be people outside that group that might want to buy a Tesla for other reasons.
He has done to most of his potential Tesla buyers what he has done to most of his potential Twitter advertisers.
I expect the leveraged value of all of his enterprises to implode into itself.

(3,921 posts)5. Agree. Tesla has long been viewed as overvalued
but it could be somewhat justified by the potential for future growth and breakthroughs. But now the brand has become toxic, and many who may have considered buying one will not. I can easily see it losing half or more of its value over the next few years. If Chinese EV automaker BYD was ever allowed into western markets (it faces heavy tariffs) it would crush Tesla.
