"How long did it take you to figure Elon's deal out?"
"Elon Musk is a salesman, and recently hes been selling two things: Electric cars and eugenics-backed fascism. His pitches for the latter have gotten loud enough that folks who bought into the former can no longer quietly ignore it, which has led to all sorts of Tesla owners plastering their cars with stickers that read some variation on 'I bought this before Elon went crazy.' Heres the thing: I dont think they did."
"In 2018 we got the launch of the Model 3 in all its tent construction, bumpers falling off, panel gap glory. Teslas clothes were looking a bit transparent, and Musk started pulling his personal mask off. He was reading cult media (not the fun 'Rocky Horror Picture Show' kind), getting paranoid about sabotage at Teslas Fremont plant, and most famously calling the diver who saved a cave-trapped soccer team a pedophile. This wasnt a one-off tweet, this was a genuine belief that Musk backed up multiple times and eventually faced a lawsuit over a suit that revealed Musks larger distrust in the media, which would eventually lead to his takeover of Twitter and reorganization of that platform to benefit the far right."
"The Musk of 2018 was a man who reportedly aggressively pursued whistleblowers, and who famously tweeted that he had 'funding secured' to take Tesla private at a price allegedly chosen in an attempt to impress electronic musician Grimes with a weed joke. This was the year where Musk grew beyond the position of 'space and EV guy' into being a a person known for his antics, a move that made the world worse for everyone."
"If you purchased a Tesla after this, you really shouldve known what you were getting yourself into. The dam broke in 2018, and the years that followed brought more and more groyper-tinged fascism that led straight to today: A world where Elon Musk controls the Treasury Department of the United States of America. If you drive a Model Y or Cybertruck both vehicles introduced after Musks heel turn your lack of knowledge about Musks actions is on you."

(20,870 posts)I know of more millionaire supercars than anyone even heard of, like Koenigsegg..
New cars that I still couldn't afford if I hit the lottery for a million bucks.

(20,870 posts)It's still in pieces in the garage. Every now and then I stub my toe on it, so it still hurts me.
Since the '90s I've been into British Sports cars. Marginally safer and fun to work on.
I've had this one for 25 years:

That's how deep Fascism has been groomed in their brains with lies after lies and misinformation.
Goebbels could only dream of having a 24/7 hate media to spread them over and over and over again.

(2,347 posts)I used to buy and sell Tesla stock in my IRA and did well with it. Remember when he announced he was taking the company private and the stock shot way up? I sold mine that day and decided I was done playing around with that fool. Never regretted it.
And the other is that I dont think most people paid much attention to him until he bought twitter and did what he did to it. Thats probably the real date for when people should have known.

(12,062 posts)Back then, they were the only company making good EVs and they promised an "affordable" one at $35K. So, I put my money down and waited. By the time it actually shipped the first vehicles years later, it cost over $50k. It was one of many bait and switch operations performed by that company.
Canceled my reservation long before they shipped it and bought a different EV. Currently driving a very nice VW ID.4. It's a great car that does everything I need.
