I think things are going to take a violent turn very soon. It will depend on the population to fight back. I guess its the same question every soldier faces when going into combat, but most of us have never been there.
I think we have to be ready to do whatever we are able to do.

Frankly, I dont think the US is at great as people think it is. Never have. Certainly not great enough to fight for. We are very backward in so many areas. I am not what anyone would describe as a Patriot. I dont have undying love for the US. We are a pretty meh country, even before HWSRN took over.

(395 posts)and both my husband and I don't want to have guns. We will likely stay and fight in whatever way we can unless we can figure out a way to leave if things really get out of hand. I do love my country and all my family is here so those are the reasons I don't want to leave.
I do understand your position and if you are able to leave, you should. During WW2, many people had to flee Germany for various valid reasons. My husband is a PhD geochemist and he expects with science being devalued, leaving is likely our best option. Sadly, I think the USA will see a 'brain drain'.

Webster was certainly in a position to know what the second amendment

pamphlet in support of the Constitution when it was proposed in 1787, in
which he stated: "Before a standing army can rule, the people must be
disarmed; as they are in almost every Kingdom in Europe. The supreme
power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole

The MAGAt's underestimate us, they think we're a bunch of pansies who won't pick up a weapon and defend ourselves or our country, they think they can just roll right over us, I've got some bad news for them, there are plenty of us Democrats that have actual combat experience, unlike most of the MAGAt's.
To answer your question, YES, I am willing to defend and die to protect our democracy and I dare any fucking R or MAGAt to think that we won't.

(142 posts)I have been pondering this question a lot lately. Perhaps more than I should. But I see the signs and feel a stiff wind at my back and I say Yes. I am not sure what this 65 year old woman has to offer, bu,t if it's my blood, sweat and tears, if its my life then Yes I am ready. Its not where I hope this all ends but as the days go by I am not quite sure who or what else will stop the fall of this Democracy. I was born in the end of the and the women before me faced prison and force feeding and rancor to give me this precious right to vote. and continued the struggle to insure my reproductive freedoms. The freedoms I have enjoyed most of my adult life was due to their willingness to risk there own. Now I look at my child, my cousins and nieces and nephews and I say who am I not to rise to the occasion. I can do no less for them than what was done for me. It's either this or leave the country with Portuguese citizenship (okay I admit a have moments where I waiver.) But the answer is the same Yes. I will stand and fight and risk my life for those who came before me and those who are yet to come. America the land of the free and the home of the brave. To my last breath.

(1,791 posts)Despite how short or long our time of service was, the oath was taken with the knowledge that it was a continuing thing, we were never given a counter oath. Our loyalty is to the Constitution, and not to any person.
I, ____________________, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.
Note that part in bold? It means pretty much nothing Trump says must be followed by any member of the military, as he violates the code with every word out of his nasty mouth.
So, count me in.

as of late. And I think I am willing. I never had children, my parents have both passed, Im divorced, and Im easily replaced at my job. I have one sister, but she lives at the other end of the country, and she does have kids and grandkids. Shell miss me, but wont be left alone in this world if I die.
I am heartbroken over the loss of the dream of America, the acceptance and inclusion, the opportunity and hope. My own parents were green card holders, coming here for this very reason. Im glad theyre not here to see what a giant fkn mistake they made.
I am highly motivated to join a violent revolution, and no one will be negatively affected by my death. Im set to retire soon, but with Muskrat on the rampage Social Security is looking more shaky by the day - so I might end up homeless and hungry anyway.
As a decrepit 60 year old woman, Im sure Ill go out pretty early in the game, but if I can take two motherfuckers down with me, I will have successfully skewed the numbers in our favor.
Thats the one hand. The other is me acknowledging its a great revenge fantasy, and wondering if Im brave enough to go through with it.

(1,405 posts)If it came down to a battle, people like me do not have the physical weapons (e.g. assalt rifles) to match MAGA firepower. We only have our energy and mouths. So far, it doesn't seem to be enough. What are we going to do? Storm the WH, Senate and House chambers, the DOD, and the Courts? If he can illegally order the armed forces to point their weapons at US citizens, nothing I do can possibly be more than a well-meant gester.

(12,379 posts)My expertise is in Latin America.
We supported a government that ethnically cleansed its people (or tried to anyway): Guatemala, 1954-1996.
We supported, nay, fomented, a horrific military coup in Chile in 1973.
We supported military dictatorships in Argentina and Brazil in the 1970s and 1980s.
We supported violent counter-revolutions in El Salvador and Nicaragua.
We did most of this under the guise of stopping Communism. It was also almost always done with plausible deniability.
I know what the US government is capable of and I have no interest in experiencing it first hand.
I've never been particularly patriotic. My parents wouldn't let me study abroad in college because they were afraid I'd stay in Europe. So I waited until I was in my 40s to move and I have no real urge to come back. I miss my family and I'd help them escape if I could, but I have very little money or space.
I vote and donate. I assist immigration lawyers with my expertise on a freelance, pro bono basis. But I do my "good trouble" from abroad.

I'd also have to go dark on the internet, especially concerning current events and politics, in case magahats are watching DU in an effort to identify those here who may pose a threat to their regime and put them on a list for elimination. I'd also have to reactivate my alias to try and cover my tracks. I made one up for fun but it didn't take me long to decide it's a pain in the ass to use on a regular basis.

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
