I am going to try. Yes, it's horrible, disgusting, deplorable, fascist, racist and relentless, but life is a marathon, NOT a sprint.

I just talked to my children. One a member of the LGBT community, and one a female PHD working in a STEM field. They were upset, as can be expected, but I simply asked them to keep some perspective. I asked them to imagine what life was like for a gay person, or a minority, or a professional female scientist 40 to 50 years ago. At least in 2025, they have a large segment of the population that are their allies. I'd imagine that wasn't true 40 to 50 years ago.

I would also like to point out that this is what Donnie Dipshit has done his entire, miserable life. Whether in business, politics, or whatever fucking scam/con he is running, he comes in and steamrolls shit around like a monkey flinging poop. Eventually, the stuff he's bragadociously peddling as "the greatest, bestest, most beautiful shit ever seen", turns out to be as successful as Donnie Dipshit Steaks, or Vodka.

All he has done so far by EO can be overturned in a heartbeat. His only success so far has been to get people running around like the sky is falling. We won't survive a year, or two, or four, if we keep running at this pace.

I will take comfort in knowing that he will fail, and at a minimum, I am on the right side of history.

I am not going to ignore the harm he is doing, or the destruction he is capable of, but I won't let him live in my head.

Let's take action where we can (limiting our spending and ensuring we aren't supporting businesses that support fascism is probably the best tool we have).

Let's vow to take one post we were going to make on DU, and turn it into a letter, or phone call to our local and national reps. Or, take that one post and turn it into a Letter to the Editor.

EDITED TO ADD: This is 2025, so maybe less Letters to the Editor and more Blue-Sky, Tik-Tok, Instagram and You Tube messaging.

BTW - How many of you have shared DU with your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers?

Let's find our local Democratic Party office and volunteer in any way we can.

Let's engage with like minded folks.

Let's be ready to respond to idiot MAGAs at our grocery stores, churches, gas stations, malls and neighborhood block parties. You don't have to allow MAGAs into your life, I sure won't! But, you can push back when you hear them retreading fascist talking points.

I am afraid of high food prices and shortages. The only reason my hubby is alive today is because of ongoing cancer treatments. The tariffs threatened against outside medicine coming into our country, as I read here the other day, could mean shortages on cancer meds. That means people, including my husband, could end up dying. These facts may be cause for others to relax. The possibility of losing my soul mate has given me more than anxiety. The loss of employees with years of knowledge and experience.

The loss of trust on the international stage.

The loss and exfiltration of sensitive data by Musk and his people.

All of those are going to take years and years to fix even after Trump is gone. It will get fixed. But it will be long and painful.

My son, who has had a very hard life up to this point and seems to lose everything every time something good happens (like he finally got engaged and then she died) works for the gov't. He is depressed and angry and scared and cannot figure out how he became the enemy of the people suddenly when all he does is try to help people get the benefits they've earned.
