In other words, no matter what sex you are, you are not judged on that basis for how you're paid. I think.

They used to fire people if they talked about their pay.

Kept the underpaid people in the dark.

where everyone’s salary was known (teachers, housekeeping, student workers, etc), everyone’s salary EXCEPT the head football coach.

Kept most everyone in the dark, and with good rea$$$on.

I think "bargaining" is 'way overrated in this country, both for prices of things and compensation. Basically, it's just a way for sharp operators to cheat and intimidate others. I don't see the attraction.

and everything that was made better by having it. It wasn’t that long ago (40 years) when I was asked in job interviews if I was going to have a family, or what my husband thought about me working. I was a manager in manufacturing.

Be it by skin colour, national origin, or religion. I'm not old enough to experience personally things like "No Irish need apply, No Catholics. No West Indians or darkies.". But old enough to be taught firsthand by others who did experience this.

And not just in employment... In housing too.

Subjective preference hiring or access
Exclusion due to personal opinions that have nothing to do with the ability to do the job.
Undue burdens to job or venue access that might impact safety or health.

There is no reason to think any one group or ethnicity is inherently better than any other at a particular job.
