It's in it's infancy. It'll grow in time. Few years.

(2,491 posts)We are quickly reaching the point that one seriously wonders why a person still clings to Twitter. I don't doubt that there are people you follow who have not yet made the move. Perhaps you might ask them when they are planning to do so. IMHO , we are reaching the point that if a person is still there and not on more decent systems, it is probably because they have an affinity with the red hats and welcome that association.
Here are the 500 most-followed accounts on Bluesky, some of them having millions of followers:

(719 posts)Every year, the marketing community gathered to watch the Super Bowl commercials and converse about them using the same, annual hashtags.
Last night, we all found community again and, for a couple hours, I didn't doomscroll. I found old friends and made new ones and went to bed in a better place than I usually do. Might it have been better to boycott? Sure, but it's also a long game and sometimes you need a break and a little reminder of the world from "before."

(93,734 posts)...fuck directing people away from that valuable information at this point in time.
Besides, if we leave that forum to republicans it will be a self-inflicted, self-actuating fail.
I suggest unwrapping what's valuable and necessary and posting that with a link for anyone who wants to explore further. Many times there's valuable context and even more to the original tweet in many cases in the replies.

It's a bit like posting in the editorial forum here, or the youtube forum.
For newshounds, it's too sparse at Bluesky. It just is.
I get how many folks who don't dig for news like I do can be satisfied with the selection there. It doesn't deliver as much as it duplicates the skim off of the top of what twitter offers me.
All of the news and info wells run dry several times a day for me, with all combined, so...

(34,031 posts)Reporters in the field usually only work with one platform and usually it's twitter.
Unless they have more than one reporter in the field, they will default to the most convenient platform with the largest target audience.

There are millions of people using Twitter to talk sports, knitting, the Ukraine war or something not connected with US politics. But those who are on Twitter for politics largely fall into one of two camps, IMHO:
* Those who have little to say but fancy themselves as "influencers," and they treasure follows as if they were gold.
* Those whose only real entertainment in their InCel lives is to pwn libs.
F them both. Our being in that mix only gives them a reason to live. They really are best left to fight among themselves. Anybody who thinks we will persuade any of them is nuts.
People who are intelligent and want to have political discussions in good faith have mostly moved to Bluesky already. Here is a real time counter of the Bluesky accounts, growing about one per second.

Practically nobody who is still on Twitter is persuadable, IMHO. About 15% of Americans still have an account. I still have an account I think. I've never posted and never plan to. The number of active US users is hard to come by, but I bet it is < 25 million, and much of that has nothing to do with politics or world affairs. A lot of it is pop culture and sports.
Bluesky has more than 30 million users now. A large percentage of those accounts are active, politically oriented and American. In other words, it is likely that the number of active American users discussing politics is greater today on Bluesky than Twitter.

(5,434 posts)about 80% of the videos I want to share can be on say a CNN story and when I copy and paste them, they are now X videos. I then delete them, go to You Tube and about 20 % of the time can repost from there but that is all.

I want to make more of a statement than just deleting my account, that's easy.
PS. Does anyone know if Musk actually said that?

I hate opening a post to see that it has an X link. I absolutely refuse to give Elmo any clicks, so that post is useless to me and a waste of my time.
DUers linking to X is just lazy posting. If some piece of data is available only on X, then I don't need to know about it. Everything important is also on Bluesky.
It saddens me that so many DUers still go to X. I had thought better of you guys.
