If we ever get control of it back, there are so many things we need to fix.

For one, severely limit the power of the executive branch. Over the years congress has delegated power to the presidency ( for example tariffs), this needs to be reversed.

The US Marshall service should report to the judiciary, not the justice department if we want the courts to truly have an equal role as one of the three branches.

There are a plethora of other functions that should not be able to be controlled directly by political appointees if we want a functioning democracy.

4. The PARTIAL list of things that need to be fixed is the same length as the original Constitution at this point.

1) Human rights - as defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights - should ALL be enshrined in a reformed or new Constitution. There are too many things to get chapter and verse here, but start there and expand...

2) The original Bill of Rights desperately needs to be updated for the 21st Century (and considering the original was an 18th century first draft (in the minds of the Founders), it should not be a surprise that the lack of changes to the document have led to a crisis that cannot be resolved without either a split/fissure of the Union or a second, bloody war (which cannot be allowed no matter what).

There are enough oversights and mistakes and bad interpretations (guns, campaign donations, free speech limits and exemptions, corporate and private financial incentives to buy and curry favor, etc.) that it is literally impossible to rectify this with simple reforms or changes in party power dynamics. This current patient is dead and continuing to hit its chest with the electro-shock paddles is not bringing it back.

3) Territorial disputes must be resolved and a complete disarming of the United States as a military entity bound to answer ONLY to one man must be ended, today. There is no way the world can watch this passively and just wait for the orange lunatic to actually follow through on his thoughts and desires ("Why CAN'T we use nukes?" - Trump actually fucking SAID it already...take it seriously that he will do it, for the love of god, believe him...)

4) When it comes time to create a new government / Constitution to replace the one that survived from 1776 to 2025 (249 years...better than the Third Reich, pretty lame compared to Rome), we need a far more nimble mechanism for changes and a far more robust appreciation from the distinction between having money and having VALUE. Elections and leadership ARE duties and not perks. Being in 'power' is not about the individual but all about the collective state enterprise. Anyone caught abusing the public trust and treasury for personal advantage should be immediately and consistently executed - either literally or figuratively with confiscation of all assets and 30+ year prison sentences for the Musk-level offenders.

5) Future states will emerge, the idiots and imbeciles in charge of destroying out current republic don't have a long term plan that is anything but Fascism 101 and that playbook ALWAYS ends with dead dictators and their cohorts.... its a matter of how many are we going to watch die in the process before enough people stop pretending this can be rectified with compromises...

5. I've been thinking that in the last few days

With chicanery like gerimandering, the electoral college and Citizens United, it inevitably led to the horror we are now witnessing.
