I'm not sure we'll ever be the way we should be again. I hope I'm wrong. (I'm in my 70s, so you younger folks have a long time to deal with this.)
I hope the midterms screw him royally. That have to.

(5,107 posts)...even if we win back the House and Senate. And T will veto anything we could get thru around the Repugs stonewalling while he is still in the WH but let's us make a stand and a statement and show him/GOP to be the bad guys.

(5,636 posts)Even if we somehow fix most of this, whats to stop a President Vance (or whoever) from doing the same thing again in a few years.

(8,826 posts)I just wrote an OP about this. Over decades, congress delegated more and more authority to the executive branch. For example, tariffs which used to require congress.
When we get back control we need to take a look and carve back many of these.
Another way to strengthen our country is to ensure the three branches are truly equal.
Right now, the US Marshall service reports to the DOJ. It should be part of the judiciary for the courts to be able to enforce judgments.
There are a plethora of other things that can and should be done to limit the role of political appointees to policy and nothing else.

(131,330 posts)to what it used to be - imperfect but at least sometimes on the right track. I was hoping for a relatively low-stress old age, just worrying about my arthritic knees instead of whether Social Security will survive and an economic collapse will take away my small nest egg; whether the country will collapse into some kind of low-grade civil war; whether Tump's lunatic foreign policy will start WWIII and get us nuked into the Stone Age (in which case most of us won't have anything to worry about ever again). I'm really sorry for what the young people will have to endure long after we're gone.

(11,855 posts)I still put my hopes on the young generation to wipe him out in the future. I thought this year would be the year, but I underestimated Trump's propaganda/cheating and the effect of the Israeli-Gaza war. But I just posted a story in LBN about him screwing farmers, who were, I thought, one of his solid groups of supporters. Maybe there's hope that his lies will be his downfall and his magas will finally realize he doesn't give a damn about them, only about himself.
