And don't lay on any bullshit about not trusting the polls, the polls were accurate before the election. The reality we have to deal with is most Americans want a fascist, racist State.

(4,646 posts)responses were because I'm on this site and I'm a lib, which YouGov knows well. Am surprised that it came out that favorable for TSF.
At least you can take solace in that they poll both sides of the political spectrum at least to some extent. And there will be another one coming along.

(33,736 posts)But, yeah. This kind of result isn't surprising in light of that. Not to mention that they're probably not doing a good job of keeping their audience accurately informed. I wouldn't know. I haven't watched CBS News in decades. Don't trust 'em.

(30,068 posts)even if it is 5 points off. I mean sure, if it is 15 points off, that would be very comforting, but is that comfort real or just self-soothing? I have a hard time believing the career statisticians at yougov are willing to set their careers on fire for some concept of corporate well-being. I dont think so, I think its closer to the truth than we would wish, but I also think we need to start dealing with what is, rather than what we would wish for.
This country is poorly educated, particularly in the areas of science, history and culture. I see Trumps approval rating in the face of his recent actions is a natural outcome of the shoddy care of our democracy.
You're forgetting Trump 1.0. It was lower.

(190,015 posts)Most people dont want to come off like they want the President to fail and give them the benefit of the doubt for a while.
This CBS News/YouGov survey was conducted with a nationally representative sample of 2,175 U.S. adults interviewed between Feb. 5-7, 2025. The sample was weighted to be representative of adults nationwide according to gender, age, race, and education, based on the U.S. Census American Community Survey and Current Population Survey, as well as 2024 presidential vote. The margin of error is ±2.5 points.

(60,206 posts)This might suggest that the result is better framed as "a representative sample of people who voted in 2024". Unfortunately for the world, the Republicans seemed to have gotten out a higher percent of their base than we did ours. This might explain why this poll shows Trump a minor amount better than other polls referenced in other posts on this thread.

(17,569 posts)1. The website was unbearable to view.
2. No mention of how many people were surveyed, which I believe is important.
3. How many polled are magas?
I left before I could access any data because of the intrusive website.

(1,794 posts)While the CBS poll has his approval rating among men in line with two other recent polls, the CBS approval rating among women and under 30 is off.
Seems to be an outlier.

(72,346 posts)First, there was a discussion in GD on Saturday that had his approval at under 49%. So, which poll is more reflective of the country.
Second, 49.5% of voters just voted for him 2 months ago. It's highly unlikely many of them would change their mind just 20 days after the term began.
So, we're starting at 50%.
Even if the 54% is a more accurate reflection, it's only 1 in 25 people who didn't vote for him.
Third, a poll is never going to be as accurate as an election, as the sample size 1/100,000th of the vote totals.
I'll be way more concerned if it's still the same number in the fall.
Finally, calling out anything that may disagree "BS" shows a lot of hubris.

(72,346 posts)I just explained my position on these polls vs. election results.
That seems to suggest the polls, at this point, aren't wildly inaccurate.
And, this is coming from someone who finds almost all modern polling suspect, but not 100% of the time.
If the presumed floor is the 49 7%, a number of 54 isn't a number that makes me think sloppy or lazy

(1 post)I took a few marketing classes in college and learned how opinion polls really work. The questions are created in a way to influence those polled in order to get a certain reaction. Polling/market research companies are hired not to get honest feedback, but instead to reinforce the opinions of those that finance them.
Simply put: they're all bs and they know the answers before they even ask the questions.

(83,497 posts)YouGov. I am honest in my answers and I believe they are honest in reporting the results. From time to time,
On certain polls, I question the results, particularly if the poll is dedicated to landlines.
There is another "off", some people straight out lie. I just took a YouGov survey prior to replying to this thread.
There were some very interesting questions, some based on "groups", some based on children, and some based on the amount of thought used in solving problems. There were questions on Blacks, feminists, white privilege, violence, and gun control.
I felt that some of my answers were contradictory, but I went with how each question was asked. I don't believe any of the questions were biased, but I'm going to have to wait a while to get the results of the survey.
I cannot generally tell if there is any political motivation behind these surveys. But the questions are often quite intriguing.
As for the "standard polls", I do not personally know of anyone who has ever participated in one.

Trump's actions need to actually filter through and actually have a negative impact before many people realize something went wrong.
