The Tim Cook ring kiss: Apple Maps now uses 'Gulf of America' name in US, will roll out globally soon

Feb 11 2025 - 1:13 pm P

Yesterday, Google Maps updated the Gulf of Mexico’s name for US users to read ‘Gulf of America’ instead. Now, it seems that Apple Maps is quickly following suit.

Maps update follows executive order to change Gulf of Mexico’s name

One of the first executive orders signed by President Trump at the start of his second term involved renaming the Gulf of Mexico to ‘Gulf of America’ instead.

This week, that change has officially been implemented by government officials and filed in the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS).

While currently, the actual map still reads Gulf of Mexico, if you tap to view location details, the app now shows ‘Gulf of America’ as the name instead

Love the products I have, but never enough for what I feel I'm compromising by keeping them. I'm doing my trade-ins and moving on up. I love seeing Tesla implode. I've got to say, I'd love just as much to see Apple take a tremendous hit!

the end to end encryption is. I wonder how encrypted the backups on the iCloud are? I only use local backup now.

But I am a nobody and have nothing to worry about, but there are many people who grew to trust Apple in the pre-Cook era.
