Been talking to a heck of a lot of my trucking buddies, liberal and conservative,

and there is a forming consensus that we will work to defeat his tariffs in our own way.
I can't give specifics, but it will be felt nationwide if it's a last resort.

I truly hope it doesn't come down to this, but we will respond it the way that they won't expect.

Please, everyone, keep the faith that we will defeat this fascist regime like our fathers, grandfathers, etc. did.

Maybe because of seeing Smokey and the Bandit at an impressionable age, I've always admired truck drivers. I think there's something special about the people who do that job--independence, self-reliance and just the right amount of irreverence and a dash of cynicism about authority.

That's a big 10-4.

Tue Feb 11, 2025, 09:39 PM

... or rather his fixation. He thinks he just has to ask the country to endure a wee bit of TrumPain and then it will be all great. "Businessman" tRump is too stupid to realize big industries don't turn on a dime and he is so maniacal that he thinks a propaganda effort will paper over most of the TrumPain anyway.

Elon is operating orthogonally to tRump. Neither is controlling the other, but both are happy with the relationship, for now, because the other person does things they can't do themselves.

Elon's not interested in tariffs, he's busy moving fast and breaking things like what works in commercial markets but doesn't work in government which he is setting against the people, not for the people.

tRump is a bully. Tariffs are made for bullies and that is why tRump keeps dangling them, warning about them, making demands, placing deadlines, making extensions of deadlines, etc. We will later come to the phase where some small concessions are made, and tRump lifts tariffs with a great flourish, proclaiming he has won a great war victory. Or it might turn out that DunceOld Hoover tRump creates a deep recession that endures for some time.

Unfortunately I think it is probable he will have to touch "the hot stove" that way to get the message. As to millions of people damaged and some sent to premature deaths by the hardship? Phht, he doesn't care a fig about little people.

But I know one thing - TARIFFS are TAXES. The US Government will be collecting the tariffs on all these imported goods, and where will the money go? How des it get accounted for? It's Uncle Sam's money, how will it end up in Elon Musk's greasy hands? There are no American laws that allow private citizens to reach in and grab tax money out of the US Treasury. However Musk ends up taking it, he will have committed a crime - probably several crimes.

The important thing that nobody is doing right now is to watch that skunk-weasel and make sure he doesn't steal the US government's money. Same for Chump too, but he's somehow easier to predict than Musk is.

don't see it that way...yet. They hold their ancestors "patriotism" in both the Civil War and WWII in high regard, and they oddly feel they are just continuing that tradition through this administration. Their Fox-addled brains see democracy as a tyrant that needs to be defeated lest they are forced to pay for food for a homeless person, school for a poor child, 20 cents more for a pizza so that workers can earn a living wage, have empathy for anyone not exactly like them, have to live in a society that doesn't meet some biblical ideal they fantasize has ever existed, and lose the ability to buy that 100th firearm they so desperately need to protect them from all of the things just mentioned. They see democracy as a fascist--or communist; they don't really know the difference--that forces them to care about people and things they don't want to. They've been convinced the freedom of all is encroaching on theirs--and is therefore a bad thing. It is the maddening sine wave of history: the Revolutionary War was fought to overthrow a king in favor of democracy; the Civil War was fought to try to allow democracy to continue to enslave certain people; WWII was fought to overthrow three fascist regimes bent on world domination; and today they fight to overthrow democracy in favor of a modern-day king.

The current administration is more along the lines of what M. Montesquieu would have called an "Oriental Despotism," the Spirit of which, he tells us, is Fear. Ironically, the Spirit of Monarchy is honor, of which the MAGA movement has none at all.

It seems that, just as the Right doesn't know the meaning of Fascism or Communism, so the public also doesn't know the meaning of monarchy, or feudal, or serf, or any of the scare-words the pundits like to throw around to try to describe the current political atmosphere. Eh, it's a pet peeve of mine.

As for the American Revolution, the propagandists then painted a very false picture of the British monarchy, and that picture has persisted to this day. George III was a Constitutional Monarch, not some divine-right absolutist as some 17th-century monarchs were (including some of his own predecessors). Imagine, the propagandists in the 18th century were just as unreliable, mendacious, and disingenuous as they are now. Let us devoutly hope that future historians, if there are any, will not take the pundits of our time at face value as regards really explaining what is going on, as so many of our time appear to have done with their 18th-Century predecessors.

These kind of jobs will come back when Americans have been brought so low and have so few options that we'll do any job, for any amount of money, in whatever conditions we can get them. I didn't think it would be in my lifetime, but it looks like that's the ultimate plan. Bring back the horrid conditions we used to have, including child labor, no safety laws, no social help programs, low wages.

Once that's achieved, close the country down, isolationism at its best, and start going after whatever we want in the world. Already on track for that, with all this talk about Greenland and the Panama Canal. I don't think Canada needs to worry too much, they'll be backed by their own military and that of the UK and Australia, and most of Europe.

I know we can't wait two years for the midterms. It will be far too late by then. Likely won't be a vote anyway. The Dems and like-minded politicians need to get off their asses and fight back. Give us some leadership, and we'll follow.

I have actually PAID tariffs and customs fees...

If you order a container of widgets from China... you can't have the contents of the container until 1) the shipment clears customs and 2) the broker moves it to their warehouse and arranges shipping.

The broker sends me the bill which includes warehouse clean up, a shit ton of meaningless bullshit fees plus customs fees and YES, tariffs.

My stuff doesn't get on a truck until I've paid the bill.

but if we don't accept the load, then it doesn't get to it's destination.

That being said, that's not the plan, we may have different goals to keep the shelves stocked.

She has been in three rallies so far. She made for herself a nice, big, professional looking sign that reads:

WE CAME UNARMED.
THIS TIME.

I think my very Democratic brother would help as he could. He mostly drives the mid-West, for a company that mostly delivers pharmaceuticals, if I'm remembering right. One of the company's big clients was really messed up from Helene (the last big one that hit western NC).

He's always trying to teach other truckers stuff, especially how to be better drivers and make their jobs easier. He thinks Jasmine Crockett is the best member of Congress. He planned his last trip out before the election so he could be home to vote in person (doesn't really trust mail-in ballots).

If you're talking about a possible strike, we should be stocking our pantries now!

Great if arbitrary tariff's by vindictive tantrum Trump get repealed asap. Sad that many of Trump's policies that only exist to hurt certain segments of the population are deemed less important to fight against.

Conservatives only support TSF. They all only exist to serve their orange master.
If we can't even agree that Republicans are the enemy, especially after everything that has happened, we are lost already.
