Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsWell, the Trump administration officially just sold Ukraine out. Not that anyone should be surprised.
But there were people who actually insisted that Trump would be harsher against Putin and Russia than Biden ever was.
Secretary Whiskey Pete just proclaimed that Ukraine's not going to get their lost territory back, that they're not getting into NATO, and any security guarantees Ukraine is going to be Europe's responsibility alone and that the US wants no part of it.
Motherfucker.

(5,425 posts)Unfortunately that would be step 2 or 3 towards the coming Trump/Musk Global Depression. And it wouldn't raise much as the US would likely greatly curtail the goods sold to Europe. But we're headed for a depression anyway, so Europe might as well take a shot.
Justice matters.

(41,948 posts)... the US withdraws from NATO, something which Turnip has been pushing for since his first term, at least.
If US withdraws, NATO loses access to US funds and manpower, but gains a freer hand than they'll have with this maladministration.*

(12,189 posts)The man is totally out of his everloving mind. He's isolating us from our closest allies, Canada & Mexico, with these tariffs; he's riling up the Middle East with this delusion of "taking" Gaza to develop real estate, and driving the Palestinians out. And for all the world, it looks like he's trying to kill us from within and at the same time kill as many people as possible on the other side of the world by shutting down U.S.A.I.D. He's destabilizing us all way around. He is our biggest National Security threat!

(1,183 posts)So, you want a businessman to run the government like a business.
With all of his Trump's bankruptcies and business failures, would you allow Trump to run your business?
Trump is no great businessman.
At the age of 18, he was already a wealthy individual because his father put him on the payroll.
There are Americans that started with much less than Trump like Michael Bloomberg, that are worth more than Trump several times over.

Ukraine and Russia are the two countries that need to find a way to end the war.
Trump cannot make either of them reach an agreement that they don't want to accept
He can try to broker a deal but ultimately he is not in a position to force the two to agree to his terms

Russia's way of "ending the war" is by the complete obliteration of Ukraine.
The way to bring about a realistic "agreement" is to give Ukraine a maximum amount of military assistance.

(8,008 posts)Here he is stepping on Rubio's toes.
He also says America wants to absolve itself of responsibility while setting the parameters. He can't have it both ways as surely this will flop. It also shows how simplistic Trump's mind is that he can't see the inconsistency in his position. It will be a long, rough ride ahead.

Felon47 will never call it a "war" or insist on reparations to Ukraine, nor even mention war crimes, no matter how much evidence there is.
Despite legal requirements concerning keeping all presidential records, I bet there's not a page of notes on what was discussed during that 90 minutes. Like any mob boss, T***p puts nothing on paper -- that's why he would snatch the interpreter's notes and tear them to bits at meetings during his first term. That is, if he allowed an American interpreter in the room, which I imagine is usually required.
