Okay what is going on here. Are the accounts at a private banking entity? Does the federal government have direct debit permission set up? So many questions as to how Treasury instructed this payment. (Via NY Posts Craig McCarthy)

(1,066 posts)In 2017 my mother passed away in January and I notified the Social Security Administration of her passing and they told me that a deposit had been made for her February check. I asked if I needed to cut them a check and they told me no because they could pull the funds back. I am quite sure that any funds given by the federal government via bank transfer can be recalled.
Here is the scary thing, Musk has access to the Treasury payment system so what will stop him from simply recalling medicare, Medicaid. SSN payments. I believe that is how they are going to end SSN by simply refusing to send out the monthly payments and recalling the rest. Just to be cruel they will start with blue states first. States like California, New York and Illinois better be vigilant with the federal money that they currently have because this is how Trump is going to punish them by taking the federal funding back.

Given the context - this sounds like the funds that just got four FEMA employees fired.

Also, that whole wad was not for hotels, luxury or not. In fact, the hotel part was only about a quarter of it.
I'm pretty sure that's a distinction and also, in addition, a difference.

While watching a network series last night the local news had a spot, alerting to the headline news at 11:00 PM. It was a story about all the storm victims still waiting for millions promised by FEMA, where did the money go?
As stated above I did not watch, may as well be Fux.
I would bet a check it was all blame onJoe and the Corrupt FEMA, and Trump will get us that money ASAP. Never mention Trump is ending FEMA. (Or how ELUMP will pay it themselves. :sarcasm

(2,274 posts)You saying that made me recall a couple of news items from mid-December, when Trump and Elon were quoted as discussing getting rid of the FDIC.
Back then Reuters said experts thought it would be a "heavy lift," but since then so many unthinkables have happened that it seems way more feasible. Yes, that's how fast they are moving the Overton window.

(337 posts)For my own personal accounts. I have had this feeling that they will use the banking info in the Treasury system to clean out people's accounts. If they can deposit money they can withdraw money. I have done some research on this and there are steps that need to be taken by the Treasury/IRS to do this but with no government in place there are no rules. Yes I'm a little freaked out and maybe some may say to much so. But I really don't put anything past them.

Heads must roll for allowing this to happen - all of the way up to and including Musk. This makes Teapot-Dome look like small potatoes.
Also, see my post #72, below, where I say I virtually predicted something like this was going to happen and this was when I thought it was Read-Only access. Even that raised red flags with me.

(3,324 posts)And as you say, it's not going to end well. Nobody is ever going to hold them account, and they know it. Trump launched a goddamn insurrection and violent attack on the Capital, based completely on lies, and then he got re-elected 4 years later. Trump and Musk are going to steal whatever isn't nailed down, and then whine 'politics waaaah! weaponization waaaah!!!' if anyone tries to do anything. Plus Musk has more $$$ than God. He's untouchable anyway cause of the lawyers he can afford. The question is not 'will we collectively be massively ripped off?' it's rather a question of how many TRILLIONS will they outright steal, and how much will they give away in tax cuts to their billionaire buddies?
DallasNE
(7,991 posts)There is no reason they should have access to the live, production files. My suggestion was to give them a copy of back-up files for their research. People need to go to jail for this super sized bank heist. And that is what it really is.

(13,003 posts)during the Covid crisis !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Trump's incestuous daughter and Jared took charge of ALL personal protective equipment in the U.S. stockpiles, as well as any shipments incoming to the U.S. Then they gave it out to RED states, (at an outrageous markup), and not BLUE states. DeSantis got THREE TIMES what he ordered for Florida, Massachusetts got NOTHING......
A Massachusetts Oligarch, sent his personal transport planes to China to pickup huge amounts and bring them back direct to Boston.
And told them not to stop anywhere, and to ignore customs. When the planes landed in Boston, he parked them out on the tarmac, the Governor had them surrounded/protected by National Guard, and had the State Patrol provide ARMED escorts of the shipments from the planes to the hospitals......... Mass. WAS FORCED to do this because Ivanka and Jared were having ALL SHIPMENTS of PPE coming into the US be confiscated by U.S. Customs, and added to their stockpile to sell.......

Musks security access level should be browse rather than the higher read only access. He has no need for this level of access. This needs to be corrected immediately. This is technical but it comes into play with concurrent access and there is no reason to risk disruption that becomes possible with read only access but not with browse access. This is pretty basic stuff.

Dallas GGGG Wow, you don't know what you're talking about. There is no "browse" access, it is read-only. And read-only is just that, he can't make changes to anything, at all. (20 year IT pro)

Breland RRRR I have now been retired for 15+ years but before that I was a mainframe IT pro for over 40 years. We had both ACF2 for file level security access and our online system (CICS) had it's own security package at the record level. I will confess that I no longer recall which security package used the term "browse" to define the security permissions but I don't make this stuff up. Share options come into play too where you address much of that with your scheduling software. Reread my first post and you should realize I was only calling attention to performance issues and not claiming that read only allows data manipulation of any kind.

Dallas GGGG Read-only access doesn't allow for disruptions. That's the lowest level of access anyone can have. The situation at hand is at it should be.

Breland RRRR Actually, they should have no need for live "production" files so they should be using a set of back-up files for their research anyway. That way they would be in a static environment where they can play around all they want. I just think that the risk level is too high, as described. When finished I would recommend scrubbing the set of files to prevent hacking.

Breland RRRR After this conversation ended we learned that the security was opened up briefly and the system got updated - exactly why I said they should only have access to a set of back-up files and not the hot production files. Now, today, we find out that $80 million is missing from a New York bank. At this point, heads need to roll because of the loosy-goosy nature of these probes that cannot be trusted. I had a feeling in my bones that something bad, like this, was about to happen. Security must be taken seriously precisely to prevent these inside jobs from happening. The risk level was simply too high, as I said.
