No voter registration required in the Netherlands. If you're eligible to vote (18 and a citizen) and there's an election, your sample ballot comes in the mail, with instructions for where and when to vote. No tricks, no lies. I'm not even a citizen but I am eligible to vote in some local elections ( water board for instance). My husband is a German citizen so he is also allowed to vote in EU elections. I've lived my whole voting life in the US south, and mostly I have to fight my way through all sorts of stupid rules designed to disenfranchise me.
