Multiple government officials are telling ABC News that America is now facing a "national security crisis" because President Donald Trump's administration has fired hundreds of National Nuclear Security Administration employees.
Sources tell ABC News that all of the agency's core functions are being impacted by the firings, including maintaining the security of America's nuclear weapons stockpile, responding to nuclear disasters around the world, and tracking nuclear devices being held by the United States' enemies.
"Two former staffers confirmed probationary employees began receiving termination notices late Thursday and worried the agency of only about 1,800 employees was losing the key nuclear arms expertise that cannot be replaced," reports ABC News.

(2,121 posts)that Putin has delegated to them? Nothing more moronic than preemptively disarming to increase your vulnerability in repelling an aggressor.

(24,398 posts)these agencies do. They just think its a good idea to fire people. What happens to the workload? The people who are left will be over worked and underpaid. Anyone cheering these cuts better be careful what they wish for. They could be next.

(13,003 posts)Did you see where it is being reported that Putin flew one of his OWN high explosive drones into Chernobyl which is still barely under control.
No one knows why, but I suspect he is testing the destruction capabilities, in preparation for strikes on Ukraine's Nuclear Reactors......

(13,003 posts)insane, Putin would try to damage the Chernobyl reactor, which is still "reacting," and not under control.....Much like Fukushima by the way, and Japan is flushing water into the ocean to keep it cooled, and the radioactive water from that, is showing up all the way down the U.S. West coast from Alaska to Mexico.........

(5,330 posts)because he fired most of Twitters staff and it still (kind of) works. Although its revenue is still a small fraction of what it was before he bought it. Its only surviving because he can pump money into it.
Musk has no idea what the effect of all these firings will be. I have a friend who had his offer to become a patent examiner at the U.S. Patent Office rescinded. They were looking to hire over 1000 examiners this year and are constantly short-staffed. The ability to get timely patent approvals directly affects US competitiveness and the ability to protect intellectual property.
The whole intent is to break the government and then complain because it doesnt work. When the next hurricane hits Florida, or Texas, or Louisiana and theres no FEMA to provide rapid assistance do you think Trump will take responsibility? Not a chance.

(9,007 posts)In Washington state, at least a dozen workers at the Hanford nuclear site - a 1940s site for plutonium and uranium production for atomic bombs - now decommissioned but highly contaminated - were laid off, including safety engineers who clean up and monitor the site, according to Democratic Senator Patty Murray of Washington.
"These reckless firings will slow down critical cleanup work and make workers less safetrying to run Hanford with a skeleton crew is a recipe for disaster that could have irreversible impacts," she said. "These layoffs will hurt companies, workers and their families across Eastern Washington."

(4,657 posts)... until he can declare martial law. He has to be removed before that can happen. They don't play by the rules, so we can't either. If we do, we die. The Sonoran Desert in Arizona could wind up being the American version of Cambodia's Killing Fields, and that's a fuck of a lot closer than any of the Pollyannas want to think. They should get their heads out of their asses, or get their asses out of the way.
