US Forest Service and National Park Service to fire thousands of workers -- The Guardian

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/feb/15/us-forest-service-national-park-service-layoffs

Agencies say Trump’s latest push to trim government could impede firefighting efforts and create crises at national parks

The US Forest Service is firing about 3,400 recent hires while the National Park Service is terminating about 1,000 workers under Donald Trump’s push to cut federal spending and bureaucracy, according to a report on Friday.

The terminations target employees who are in their probationary employment periods, which includes anyone hired less than a year ago, according to Reuters, and will affect sites such as the Appalachian trail, Yellowstone, the birthplace of Martin Luther King Jr and the Sequoia national forest.

The cuts represent about 10% of the Forest Service workforce and about 5% of National Park Service employees, but excludes firefighters, law enforcement and certain meteorologists, as well as 5,000 seasonal workers, from the cutbacks.

“Allowing parks to hire seasonal staff is essential, but staffing cuts of this magnitude will have devastating consequences for parks and communities,” the National Parks Conservation Association (NPCA) president, Theresa Pierno, said in a statement.

My guess is that after they get rid of the provisional/early hires, they'll eviscerate the rest of these agencies. First, make sure there's no one available to do the job, then eliminate the job.

1. Revenge again

Remember during felon I, how the NPS created an alternate way to post on the Internet to defy the original ravings of the maniac felon? Somebody didn't forget and are making sure NPS pays for their defiance.

It is easy to figure the motivation of most of the actions: revenge.

And I can't help thinking that since felon has blamed everyone else for his numerous and lifelong failures, that ultimately, he hates everyone because his businesses failed, his 'university' failed, women rejected him, his 5 minutees of fame slipped away, judges ruled against him , juries found him guilty and on and on.
Going just a little further, it is easy to postulate that he not only hates everyone, he hates America and he hates the world. And the more failures he puts on display, the more people laugh and the more he hates. There are no exceptions, no exemptions. There is no one safe, anywhere, except maybe those astronauts if they are still in space. If you are a human on this planet, he hates your guts. Even if he kills us all and destroys the Earth, he will never stop hating.

3. It seems like a strange platform - revenge. But it does fit Putin, Stalin perfectly.

I'm not a historian by any stretch, but those russians were focused on inflicting maximum pain on those who defied them.

How did trump get co-opted by these russian psychopaths to want to do this to his own home country?

4. If felon was born normal he was ruined along the line

I can only guess how he was treated as a child, but whatever happened took any shred of humanity away. As the tree is bent, so grows the twig.
I don't see people describing felon's behavior relating to oppressive leaders as being similar to how abused children act. Abused children learn to anticipate what their abuser wants, so maybe the next bout of abuse won't be so bad. I don't think it works.

I think if you abuse a smart kid who learns early how to outsmart the abusers, get something on them for blackmail, and then get a free pass from then on, probably the tormented becoming tormenter, you will end up with a really twisted being, probably no longer capable of being human.

I don't have any sympathy for felon. I know too many people who overcame what they suffered and made sure they were better people in spite of what they lived through. felon never even tried to be better. For what he is, it was easier to become worse.

5. Astute observations

in this and your previous post in this thread. I agree that he hates everyone and everything. As Mary Trump titled her book, “Too Much and Never Enough.”

I don’t think any of this makes TSF happy. He’s incapable of joy, just a sort of temporary grim satisfaction when he makes another perceived enemy suffer. Then that fades and he craves another sick thrill.

6. I was thinking of a destroyer while I wrote

something that destroys with no intention of improving or replacing. I checked Shiva, but there is purpose to that concept of destruction.

I've also been thinking of Slim Pickens in Dr. Strangelove riding the bomb and whooping it up. Maybe that's closer to felon's reality.

Thank you for your comments.

I doubt Trump and Musk give a rat's ass about their safety.

…and trash not being removed. Some will be deliberate because we just have some flat-out ugly people in this society.

And then there is trump’s wet dream of leasing and/or selling our national heritage to mining outfits and land developers.

Teddy Roosevelt and John Muir must be spinning in their graves.

9. I really think it is your "leasing and/or/selling our national heritage" that motivates him.

It's a "transaction". He gives them the rights and they give him money.

That's his whole MO. No sense of loyalty, tradition, caring, humanity - just the quid.

I think a number of the parks are going to have to close their gates (a few had no choice during tsf last government shutdown) or limit the number of people who come even further.

Irony, they won't be able to accept fee's, lowering government revenue. These idiots are going to put us further in debt, what a bunch of fucking morons.
