Quote I read And remember (If not us then who if not now then when)
And I hope we can accomplish this through peace yet perhaps Im foolish to think this way. As this administration will eventually feel threatened and will unleash violence upon us.

Although a few deaths might get some media attention... BAH, who am I kidding?

(6,267 posts)Friends at a distance have decided they cant do it. Lucky for me I am close, so will be shoveling out my driveway and then walking to the State House. We wont be many, but we will be fierce.
I wish I could see a good end game, but without deference to the courts there is nothing in place to stop the coup. Who would have thought South Korea would be better at protecting their democracy than we are?

Stay safe at there y'all...
I'm in Louisiana. Baton Rouge is a quite a journey from Shreveport, the city in which I reside.
I have no doubt that all attendees of the protests will be identified, catalogued and identity/location information captured from smartphones and potentially vehicles in the area.
This is only the first skirmish.
Live to fight another day.

(4,094 posts)Dictatorships cannot exist without violence, people reject being ruled by autocrats, that is why dictatorships always turn violent.
The big question is, will the military collaborate with the regime, or will they reject it? If they oppose it then the wanna-be-dictators are out of government fast, otherwise? There will be a lot of violence.

(566 posts)and clear tape over my signs. Meeting up with several friends there. We have choice of 3 rallies all within easy driving distance so that is encouraging to see. I attended my first protest while in college in the late 60s so its still in this old hippies DNA!😁. Those of us who are lucky enough, health wise to be out there, know that if you cant physically attend you are supportive in so many other ways. We are one in the spirit of resistance ! Love ya DU family ! 🩷

(6,267 posts)Hey, Mr Duncanpup, how was your protest? It was really great here in Augusta. Very encouraging, with a surprising turnout given the bitter cold and blustery conditions. There were clever signs, good speakers and good protest songs, and in all it was a well organized event, although over in 2 hours rather than the scheduled 4, to the dismay of later arrivals. At one point the singing was interrupted by a bald eagle flying low over head to great cheers. Whoever arranged that really outdid themselves.

(117 posts)I didn't make it to the rally at the Capitol in St. Paul today, but close to 1000 brave souls did. I am so proud of that turnout, as the actual temperature was -4! The warmest it got today was -2. I must admit that at my age (76) the cold temps and the wind chill deterred me, although I WAS at the Capitol two weeks ago for the "50 for 50" (or, 50501) demonstration. With so much at stake here as well as around the world, we cannot let a little thing like weather keep us from making our voices heard. I expect these public demonstrations to continue and to grow. It is up to us.
