(1,312 posts)I'm going in a couple of weeks and I had to pay a small fee and get some sort of validation done. It said expect up to 3 days, but came back in a few hours

(931 posts)U.S. citizens traveling to the United Kingdom for short visits, tourism, or business need an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) as of January 8, 2025. It's pretty simple.

The UK started the ETA back in 2023 with middle eastern countries and has been expanding it ever since. It's not A US thing or a Trump thing, it'll eventually expand to nearly everyone.

I had to do this for my upcoming trip in May.
I will say that it was extremely easy to do on my phone and I received an approved authorization in less than 10 minutes.
