If he says he's autistic, you don't have any basis to say that he isn't. And being "weird", seeming emotionless and saying inappropriate things are all very common autistic traits.

He can still be an asshole. For example, refusing to apologise for the inappropriate thing he said and doubling down on it makes him an asshole. Firing people for the fun of it makes him an asshole. Attack him for those things.

But can we please chill on the superficial broad brush attacks on "weird" autistic people most of whom have been bullied mercilessly their entire lives for the way they act and which they generally can't help. If they could act differently, it wouldn't be a disability. And by attacking Elon on those grounds (and Mark Zuckerberg and whatever other prominent Aspies are in the news doing unpopular things) you are making other autistic people feel like shit about the way they act and look. Most autistic people report already feeling like robots or aliens more than human beings because of the extent to which they are socially ostracised just for being themselves.

There is nothing wrong with expressing yourself differently. Why don't we try to embrace a little understanding for people that are different to us in a way that isn't causing us any harm and save the vitriol for the actually harmful things that people choose to do?

Calling autistic people "weird", "plastic", "artificial", "emotionless" and "robotic" sucks and is bullying behaviour towards a vulnerable community that is constantly bullied and faces shocking rates of social exclusion, dissociation, depression, anxiety, eating disorders and suicide rates as a result.

Accusing disabled people of faking a hidden disability (while also somehow attacking them for displaying all of the common outward features of that disability) with no evidence is gross and ableist. It discourages people who are unsure and questioning their potential diagnosis from seeking that diagnosis and from feeling comfortable sharing it with others after they get it for fear they will be accused of malingering or faking it for attention. Which delays their opportunities to seek interventions that could improve their quality of life.

There are half a dozen people in the fraction of this thread that I could even bring myself to read who are actually doing that so I'm not sure where you've drawn your conclusion from that "there's not a person on this board who would do that" but you don't have to look very far to disabuse yourself of that notion if you're willing to be honest, open your eyes, and try to see things from someone else's perspective.
