how cruelty is now normalized in American culture. I have read so many posts and comments on social media whether it's Youtube, Twitter, Facebook, etc and I'm just amazed at how much hatred people have in their hearts for government workers. There are so many responses that go like this "This is great Michelle deserved to lose her government job nobody should feel sorry for her. I have worked in the private sector my whole entire life, and nobody cared when I got laid off and therefore, I don't care about Michelle, and I hope she experiences the pain I have experienced from my layoff."
The hatred and lack of empathy I see from these people cheering the job loss of these government employees is downright deplorable and sickening. I have worked in the private sector, and I have lost my job 3 times in my life and each time it was a crappy experience that I don't wish on anybody to experience. I have had friends who have gotten laid off in which I had to talk them out of committing suicide because the loss of their job was devastating. This is why I never wish this type of experience on an innocent person, and I can't get any joy out of seeing this happen to innocent people.
I'm not too old at the age of 41 but for the older DUers when did this type of hatred and cruelty towards government workers become the norm in America?
The comments and response to this one woman who lost her USDA job in this video really caught my attention of the cruelty that's being directed towards government workers.

I'll never forget his sanctimonious tone when he spoke of the "nine most terrifying words in the English language; I'm here from the government and I'm here to help".

(10,476 posts)Since the first time I heard how these people are being terrorized I have been waiting for it to get reported. It's been slow, but it does seem to be getting out at a glacial pace. I just hoped that there was eventually some help available. The amount of snark about Fed employees has been downright disgusting. They are people who go to work everyday just like most everybody else. Their jobs mean just as much to them as anybody else working because they need to. They are no more or less corrupt than any other workers. Actually, mostly far less corrupt than a lot of the people in charge. The wholesale trashing of a portion of American citizens who are geting up, going to work, and carrying on with their lives just makes me want to

The other common thing I hear is welcome to the real world which is stupid for a lot of reasons I wont go into.

(4,372 posts)And I saw during covid just exactly what they thought of the dignity of work by crapping all over heroic nurses and service workers. These critics look down on people if they have no job or if people hold jobs that they think are beneath them.

(23,937 posts)I think to MAGA government employees are primarily Black people. Hence all the negativity heaped upon government workers as a whole. It always comes down to anti-Blackness.
