BROOKLYN, NY Today, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries released the following statement:
The vile and antisemitic rhetoric directed at Jewish residents in Borough Park is unacceptable and unconscionable. We will not tolerate the egregious behavior on display that was clearly designed to intimidate and harass Jews in the Borough Park neighborhood. People of goodwill across our City and throughout the nation must continue to do everything possible to protect our Jewish brothers and sisters who are under assault and fight the cancer of antisemitism with the fierce urgency of now.

Pro-Palestinian activists shout settlers go back home and we dont want no Zionists here at Boro Park rally that is widely condemned as antisemitic by political leaders
NEW YORK Anti-Israel protest groups staged a rally in a Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn on Tuesday night, berating the residents as settlers and Zionists and sparking fights with pro-Israel counterprotesters. The protest, led by the Pal-Awda activist group, took place in Boro Park, an area with a large Orthodox population.
Around 200 anti-Israel protesters gathered on a street in the neighborhood within a barricaded area set up by police. A crowd of Jewish residents and other pro-Israel counterprotesters demonstrated on the sidewalk across the street. Dozens of police officers separated the two sides. The protest began just after sundown and the temperature was below freezing.
The anti-Israel protesters chanted, settlers settlers go back home, Palestine is ours alone, Zionists go to hell, and We dont want no Zionists here. Most wore masks or keffiyehs to cover their faces.
=============================
Others shouted insults, including at children. One man called neighborhood residents filthy Zionist assholes, and a woman shouted at a pair of young girls watching from a crosswalk, saying, Youre so gross. Youre disgusting. Children on their way home from neighborhood yeshivas peered out their bus windows at the scene.

Similar events have sparked several heated protests in the region since the start of the Israel-Hamas war. Tuesdays event was reportedly canceled due to safety concerns."
There are also reports that Pro-Israel supporters yelled "Trump owns Gaza!"
Personally I am against the Israeli Government and Hamas. Both sides have and are continuing to do horrific things and deserve our condemnation, not our support. I understand that people on here may not like my opinion and I offer my apologies to any offense in advance but none for my opinion.

Pal-Awda said the protests were to stop what they claimed was the sale of stolen land. The expo website didnt offer holdings in disputed territories, but Getter does seek out real estate on behalf of its clients depending on their requests, which could include settlements.

(21,061 posts)Why is this hate group on the streets of Brooklyn hurling insults at NYC Jews?
Who the fuck are they to tell New Yorkers "we don't want no Zionists here"?
=====================
From the ADL website:
On both social media and at in-person events, the group, as well as its chapters and leaders, has expressed support for the 10/7 attack on Israel, labeled Israelis "a cult of torturers," praised 10/7 architect Yahya Sinwar as a "hero" and "legend," held a vigil to mourn the late Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and called to dismantle every institution of Zionist violence in the world.

(9,993 posts)I personally think their racism and support of terrorists is disgusting and don't support that at all but to sell stolen land and then expect them to just sit back and take it is also disgusting.

(21,061 posts)A Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY was targeted by anti-Semites who celebrate Hamas terrorists.
By the way, we consider all of Israel to be 'stolen land'.
That gives us the *right* to target an Orthodox neighborhood in Brooklyn, NY and attack random Jews.
And as long as Israel exists, we reserve the *right* to engage in vile acts of antisemitism against Jewish settlers in Brooklyn because 'we don't want no Zionists here.'"

From your post.
Then you said that group doesn't sell stolen land and I showed you where they did.
Pal-Awda said the protests were to stop what they claimed was the sale of âstolenâ land. The expo website didnât offer holdings in disputed territories, but Getter does seek out real estate on behalf of its clients depending on their requests, which could include settlements.

And from their own website they are advertising an illegal settlement.

(9,993 posts)"protesting a real estate event "
Like I said, glad we agree.
I'm not going to defend hateful speech, a lot of what they said was wrong. If you think being upset at a real estate event where they are selling stolen land is wrong then that is on you. Personally I find that selling that land is wrong but that is me.
lapucelle
(21,061 posts)where they hurled insults at Jewish children crossing the street in their own neighborhood.
It's difficult to fathom why anyone would think that masked anti-Semites shrieking insults at children and chanting "we don't want no Zionists here" were *really* protesting a real estate event.
It's reminiscent of the "peaceful site-seers" January 6 canard.
Eko
(9,993 posts)Ive said the the protestors were yelling racist slogans and were wrong but you just wont say that selling stolen land is also wrong. Seems to me that might be why we are where we are at.
lapucelle
(21,061 posts)so no, I do not agree with THEIR protest.
It goes without saying that The Getter Group should not be selling or trying to acquire property appropriated by settlers in the West Bank. It's illegal. That's why Joe Biden imposed sanctions on West Bank settlers and why Israeli banks honored those sanctions.
Did any of the signs, flags, or chants at yesterday's hate-fest mention The Getter Group by name? If it was an anti-Getter Group Real Estate Expo protest, why were the chants about Zionists who live in Brooklyn? Why were Brooklyn Jews called "settlers"? Why was a random Jewish resident told "Zionists disgust me"? Why were Jewish children crossing the street targeted and subjected to vile abuse?
------------------------------------------------
I stand with Leader Jeffries.
People of goodwill across our City and throughout the nation must continue to do everything possible to protect our Jewish brothers and sisters who are under assault and fight the cancer of antisemitism with the fierce urgency of now.
Sorry but, "Yeah, they were really just protesting a real estate expo" strains credulity and helps to create a permission structure for this type of soft terrorism to continue and escalate.

Eko
(9,993 posts)And Hamas killed a lot of innocent Israeli citizens.
And the releases have been propaganda displays on the part of Hamas.
And Hamas fires rockets at innocent Israeli citizens.
And they raped some of the captives.
I have never said that what Hamas has done was ok or minimized it.
Hamas is a radicalized terrorist group. That doesn't change the fact that Israel has done a lot of horrible things as well.
Here is what Jimmy Carter said in an interview on his book Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid
"The book is about Palestine, the occupied territories, and not about Israel. Forced segregation in the West Bank and terrible oppression of the Palestinians create a situation accurately described by the word. I made it plain in the text that this abuse is not based on racism, but on the desire of a minority of Israelis to confiscate and colonize Palestinian land. This violates the basic humanitarian premises on which the nation of Israel was founded."
Was Jimmy Carter wrong?

(13,283 posts)I am assuming they were specifically berating the organizers of the event, not the random residents of the Jewish neighborhood in Brooklyn.
Which would, according to the defenders of the not antisemitic protest in question, make the Times of Israel article a Zionist lie, and the statement from Leader Jeffries of a "vile and antisemitic rhetoric directed at Jewish residents in Borough Park" being "unacceptable and unconscionable" an ignorant rant, right?
