But the state leader insists she'll have guardrails in place to keep watch on the indicted Big Apple chief executive.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul will for the time being not remove embattled New York City Mayor Eric Adams from office, but will instead impose limits to his office's power, a source with direct knowledge told NBC News on Thursday.
Hochul in recent weeks has been pressured to exercise her power to take Adams out of Gracie Mansion after the mayor's indictment last year on a host corruption allegations.
Adams has insisted on his innocence and refused to resign.
The Trump administration is in the process of trying to drop all charges against Adams, while also telling the mayor he needs to help federal authorities carry out immigration raids in America's largest city.

(7,794 posts)He has said she cannot just pluck him out of office. There would have to be a hearing, the procedure for which has never been established. The state would not have access to the Feds evidence. Even if she removed him he could appeal - and we know how long that takes.

(816 posts)There's a process (of course). It is lengthy and time consuming. As noted, L. O'Donnell explained it well.
It all ends up with SCOTUS in a year or years ahead. Meanwhile, the foundation is crumbling, and our democratic processes
are falling...

(7,191 posts)to "fire" Adams, but there would be an adminisistrative process, almost like a trial, that could take a year or more; and she would not be able to use the FBI's evidence against him.
