So, if the tariffs replace the income tax AND force companies to bring all the jobs back to the US,

How does the US Treasury replenish itself once all the jobs are here and there is nothing to tariff?

I know it's an unrealistic question, but it is one that should be asked, shouldn't it?

It's the right question. Tariffs are a horrible way to fund anything. But that isn't actually the point.... Ol Janx Spirit Feb 2025 #3

back here trumpsters think they will become millionaires. They want to believe, and don’t care about having to pay taxes down the road.

trump knows tariffs are a huge risk, and if I’m not mistaken he levied 10% on China, though before taking office he was threatening 50% China, 25% on our friends, even mentioning 100% at times. He backed off Canada and Mexico after market reacted negatively.

Would like to see a trumpsters jaw drop with your question.

For many--if not most--Americans, the message of, "no more income taxes," is all they will hear--and they will support it. The how is meaningless. They will support DOGE when they hear the "dividend" idea. People voted on lower taxes and the price of eggs. You can be sure they will get one of those two things because it is the only thing Rs actually do when in office--regardless of the fiscal sanity of it all....

This all pretty much insanity at this point. One thing I think is that tariffs aren't going to bring jobs back here. It has not worked in the past. Those countries will do their own reverse tariffs and trade more with other countries. I think the last time, or one of previous the times it was done by the US on Canadian goods in the past, Canada did reverse tariffs and then increased their trade with Europe.

When Op(orange psycho) did this to China last time, as I recall, it caused job losses and other problems.

I can’t think of any countries that have substituted income taxes with tariffs. Certainly no large countries.

Anyone (see Republicans) who sincerely believes that is on something.

Even most of the individual components necessary to manufacture a lot exported goods aren't available here and have long since been outsourced.

It's the epitome of magical thinking, but all it's going to actually do is fuck the country over.
