I saw that clip. Yeah, I believe my eyes. That's what it was. It was in response to something someone in the audience did. It is easy to imagine that someone gave a Nazi salute to him, and he responded with one. But, I don't know. He was saluting in response to something.
My Father was a guard at the Nuremburg Trials. He watched one of those Nazis get hanged. It was real intense. And now, here we are, with a little Nazi comeback right in our own country. I am not concerned with the optics. First chance we get, we lock them all up. Ship them out to Gitmo. My parents did not live through WW2 for the likes of Trump, et al. to turn our country into the Fourth Reich.
We will see more and more of these pricks saluting in the open. Wait and see. They think it's cute. Not sure how we got back in the 1930s, but here we are. Now we get to see how we would've acted had we been Germans. We just can't go there.

(7,790 posts)If we don't get back to calling things what they are, they're going to normalize every bad behavior acted out since the days of the cavemen. Bannon's not on trumps special list any longer, and he's desperately trying to get back to the front of the line by speaking up for a "third term."
Gods, I want back the rule of law and I want all these idiots, traitors, and criminals thrown in jail for so long everyone forgets their names.

Too bad that they don't teach history properly in the US. These nuts would rather bring religion into the classroom than teach meaningful things like history.
This time when we get the Nazis, we have to get ALL of them. What happened in the 1930s and 40s can never be permitted to occur again. EVER!

We got them in WWII, except for the ones that went into hiding under new identities after the war. Over the years, Nazi hunters found a lot of the hiders, and there can't be many still alive at this point, because they'd be so old.
The Nazis that are coming out of the woodwork now are younger ones that have come along since the war. I'm not sure when they started making a resurgence, but I first became aware of them in the 1970s, when one group made a stink by trying to hold a march in Skokie, IL, home of a huge number of holocaust survivors. If you're not familiar with that incident, you can read about it here: https://abcnews.go.com/US/skokie-legacy-nazi-march-town-holocaust-survivors/story?id=56026742
Sadly, there are new crops of young neo Nazis coming along all the time. The original German Nazis are gone, but their ideology is a part of history, and there's a certain kind of white supremacist RWNJ mentality that is (unfortunately) attracted to it and (even more unfortunately) wants to emulate it. As long as that mindset continues to exist in our society, they're going to keep regenerating.
Fortunately, the Southern Poverty Law Center.org has some great tools for keeping track of the activities of neo Nazis and other hate groups at https://www.splcenter.org/resources/hate-watch/ and specific info on neo Nazis here: https://abcnews.go.com/US/skokie-legacy-nazi-march-town-holocaust-survivors/story?id=56026742

(7,790 posts)I know he enlisted when he was 17. Depression kid, with no home and no means of support. The Army was a godsend to him, in that way. I know he first went to North Africa, and that he LOVED Italy. Also know he was stationed in Europe at some point. But beyond what he told me about the countries (or an old girlfriend... gryn), he rarely talked about any of it. How he went through all that hell and still came out willing to give anyone the shirt off his back (even if it was his only one) really makes me proud of him. And he was so proud when I stood there in the AAFES office and took my oath to the country, he was busting buttons. It'd kill him to learn how many in today's services cowtow and bleat over the orange nazi menace.
