Negotiations on a deal to entrench U.S. interests in Ukraine's reserves are ongoing, with the latest draft presented by the White House demanding $500 billion of Ukraines natural resources, including critical minerals, to recuperate American aid to Ukraine.
Zelensky said that he will not recognize such a large sum since it vastly outweighs the $100 billion the U.S. has sent to Ukraine under former President Joe Biden.
The president added that the aid given to Ukraine cannot be counted as debts since they are grants and stressed that security guarantees need to be included in the deal. So far no such guarantees have been put in place, he said.
I am not signing something that will be paid by 10 generations of Ukrainians," Zelensky said, adding that he wants a dialogue with Trump.
I expect that trump will be exploding any time now

(3,123 posts)for Americans to send money directly to Ukraine. I think he could get enough money to win this war. Would that be legal? Like a Go fund me for Ukraine? If every non maga sent $10 each month, I think it could be significant. Rich people would send more.

Washington had demanded that the condition be made part of a deal on access to Ukrainian oil resources. Kyiv refused, arguing that the real amount of aid from the United States is about $90 billion, not $500 billion.

(7,907 posts)Trump is an expert, so he says, but why are so many of his deals so ridiculous and get rejected out of hand?
I get it, Trump wants to get rich. Not the country, but Trump himself.
Got his eyes on the gold in Ft Knox! (Hope they have good security cameras!)
Doesn't matter if the country goes down the gurgler, with everyone living in poverty. Trump just does_not_care!
Anyhow once Trump has megabillions, what will he do with the money? Solid gold coffin?

The moderate Republican said Russian President Vladimir Putin, who launched the invasion of Ukraine three years ago, should be the one forced to pay.
Putin, and Putin alone, should bear the economic costs of Putins illegal and unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, Fitzpatrick said in a post on the social platform X.
To force Ukraine to pay these costs is the epitome of victim-blaming and victim extortion.
U.S. officials have been pushing a proposal wherein the U.S. would get half of any revenues from Ukraines natural resources, as well as earnings from ports and other infrastructure, according to The New York Times. According to a draft of the deal, the U.S. would collect until a special fund reaches $500 billion.
In exchange, the U.S. would provide long-term support for Ukraines reconstruction. However, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been pushing for security guarantees as well and has resisted the terms being pushed by President Trump.
