(8,123 posts)They are wise to the early signs.
They saw Dictator Trump coming long before the American public did.
Pity Trump isn't a student of history, with the effects and the eventual fate of dictators evident in European history books.

The road back to normal Democracy (warts and all) will be a long one.
Not a perfect government, but better than the cup of hemlock Trump is offering.

(9,195 posts)It was founded in response to the Brexit referendum result in 2016, its first issue being published just a month after the vote. It was originally slated to be limited to four issues, but was more successful than expected and has found funding from a variety of shareholders.
It's usually available on newsstands in places like supermarkets, though it's built up more of an online presence in recent years, where it now ranks seventh in UK political brands.
I've bought it on a few occasions, and it's generally a good read, and quite a refreshing change in its pro-European and pro-EU stances.

(496 posts)They deserve the shitstorm. Half of the American people are idiots. You can't have a functioning democracy if half the people are brain dead. We are now the pariah of the world's nations. God, please let this nightmare end!

(43,406 posts)We've been through this a million times on this forum. More like 32%. If you want to see the numbers, I have them in my file. The error is in counting the people who didn't vote. Of course, the non-voters are schmucks, but they didn't overtly vote for him. Let's not give him any credit he isn't due.
I agree with the rest of your post, though.

(55,644 posts)That's why there is Electoral College, and Senators were originally chosen by State legislators instead of direct election. Only men of property could vote, the idea being they had direct investment in the well-being of the country. These were the perpectives of the ruling classes at the time.
The Achilles heel of democracy is the lack of intelligence and awareness, and apathy of, the masses.
