The UN said on Thursday that since Israeli operations began on 21 January, 51 Palestinians, including seven children, have been killed in Jenin, Tulkarm and Tubas governorates, as well as three Israeli soldiers.
The offensive has caused severe damage to water and sanitation infrastructure, disrupting access to water to "tens of thousands of people", it said.

Israel has sent tanks to the West Bank city of Jenin, in the first deployment of its kind in the area in more than two decades, as troops intensify operations in the territory that officials said will last at least a year.
The Israeli defence minister, Israel Katz, said on Sunday that the latest operation across the West Bank was expanding, and that troops would remain in the areas urban hotspots for the coming year, meaning approximately 40,000 people displaced by the fighting will not be able to return to their homes.
The Israel Defense Forces said they were sending tanks to the northern city of Jenin for the first time since the height of the second intifada, or Palestinian uprising, in 2002.

Hamas released six Israeli hostages on Saturday under the terms of the agreement, but Israel suspended the handover of more than 600 Palestinians it was due to free from its prisons in exchange, putting the five-week-old ceasefire agreement in further jeopardy.

(54,407 posts)In Paris, far-right minister says Palestinian nation is an invention of past 100 years, and world should hear this truth; speaks in front of Israel map that includes Jordan

Far-right lawmaker Bezalel Smotrich said Sunday that the Palestinian people were an invention from the last century and that people like himself and his grandparents were the real Palestinians.
Speaking in Paris at a private memorial service for prominent right-wing Likud activist and Jewish Agency board member Jacques Kupfer, who passed away after a long battle with cancer in 2021, Smotrich said there was no such thing as Palestinians because theres no such thing as the Palestinian people, a comment that was met with applause and cheers from attendees, as seen in a video from the event posted online.
Do you know who are the Palestinians? asked the head of the ultranationalist Religious Zionism party and Israels finance minister. Im Palestinian, he said, also mentioning his grandmother who was born in the northern Israeli town of Metula 100 years ago, and his grandfather, a 13th-generation Jerusalemite, as the real Palestinians. Smotrich was speaking from a podium that featured a map of Greater Israel that included the territory of modern-day Jordan, in accordance with hardline aspirations by some early Zionist groups.
Smotrich has a history of making inflammatory statements against Palestinians, Arab citizens of Israel, non-Orthodox Jews, and the LGBTQ community including once declaring himself a proud homophobe. In 2021, he said David Ben-Gurion, Israels first prime minister, should have finished the job and kicked all Arabs out of the country when it was founded. Earlier that same year, he said members of Israels Arab minority communities were citizens for now at least.

NY Congress Member Introduces Bill Recognizing Yehuda and Shomron As Part of Eretz Yisroel.

A new bill recently introduced in Congress, by Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-N.Y.), The Recognizing Judea and Samaria Act, aims to change the status quo. Since the Six-Day War, the U.S. Government hasnt recognized the name of the Yehuda and Shomron, (secularly known as Judea and Samaria) region. Rather it uses the term West Bank, which implies that the region is Jordans and not historically part of Eretz Hakodesh.
The new bill, which is co-sponsored by Representatives Randy Weber (TX-14) and Anthony DEsposito (NY-04 representing the Five Towns Frum Kehilla), would force the State Department to use the term Judea and Samaria instead of the West Bank. The term Yehuda and Shomron dates back millennia to the Eretz Yisroel. In 1967, after Israels Arab neighbors launched the Six-Day War, Israel reclaimed it from Jordan. The term West Bank is used to delegitimize Israels historical claim to this land. In November 2019, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced that the United States would formally recognize Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, Yehuda and Shomron.
Recently, Secretary of State Antony Blinken reversed this position, stating the Biden administrations disappointment in Israels recent decision to expand its Yishuvim in the region. This condemnation comes in spite of the fact that under the Oslo Accords, Israel was granted full military and civilian control over the majority of Yehuda and Shomron. The Israeli people have an undeniable and indisputable historical and legal claim over Judea and Samaria, and at this critical moment in history, the United States must reaffirm this, Rep. Tenney said. The misguided decision by the Biden administration to revoke the Pompeo Doctrine undermines our greatest ally in the Middle East.
The Recognizing Judea and Samaria Act requires all U.S. legal documents to use the rightful term Judea and Samaria to refer to this territory instead of the West Bank. This bill reaffirms Israels rightful claim to its territory. I remain committed to defending the integrity of the Jewish state and fully supporting Israels sovereignty over Judea and Samaria. Rep. Tenney added.

With the ceasefire, the religio-fascist right-wingers immediately wanted to "transfer the war" to the West Bank. Now they are doing to the West Bank what they did to Gaza. With the added joys of the cruel settlers displacing and assaulting Palestinians daily.
They go about it in a truly sadistic way. By " planting trees" in a religious ceremony. The army or the settlers then go in and raze the homes, the community centres etc. and drive the people out.
Any other country did this, we would rightly call it criminal and evil. And put a stop to it.

They are hopeless addicts. All of them.
If this sounds patently ridiculous to you, you know why your post is not going to be dignified with a halfass serious response.
Consider yourself lucky that I don't alert.

(13,283 posts)the subtle bitterness of sarcasm emanating from your post pretty clever.
In the same spirit of emulating the Borowitz Report: hopefully the Democrats can vote themselves into controlling the House and the Senate.
