A legal basis for lawful Resistance and Rebellion--
The powers of the President and the Executive Branch derive from the Constitution. If the President and his Agents are acting in an illegal and unconstitutional manner, then their authority is null and void. No illegal or unconstitutional action can therefore be "official", and the Supreme Court doctrine that asserts a President can commit illegal actions while in office is defunct and should be once again challenged in the courts and in the streets, if necessary.
A relevant excerpt from the Declaration of Independence, the founding document of our Nation--
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That, to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That, whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness."
Our lives, our liberties, and our pursuit of happiness are being threatened by this rogue fascist regime. We have the right to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government. If they are going to subvert the law, violate the Constitution, and destroy our government, we have the right to resist and to establish a new government. We are the people and we do not consent to this false and despotic regime.

(2,695 posts)America and Americans have a Constitution that governs the USA. This gives us the right to defend our own Constitution.
Trump and the Republicans Party are traitors to America. Nothing they are doing is lawful. And they are actually committing crimes against the USA.
Trump and the Republican Party are siding and aligning with the most disgusting and evil people on Earth, namely Putin.
Trump and the Republican Party are destroying America's ability to defend itself against enemies: firing the very people who's job is to protect America.
Trump and the Republican Party are destroying the social safety net of millions and millions of Americans.
Trump and the Republican Party are stealing our Treasury.
Trump and the Republican Party are stealing all our personal data - another breach of the US Constitution.
What I don't know yet is the mechanism to remove a rogue Administration and restore normalcy to our government. This needs to be discussed and come up with a solution to dissolve this administration. Intelligent, thoughtful, and patriotic Americans need to have this discussion and quick.

(1,492 posts)I think the only real, lawful solution is Impeachment. Yes, I know that the Republicans are in charge of the Congress. I know that Impeachment is a nonstarter for them. But the Republicans have the slimmest majority in the House in one hundred years. There are two special House elections in Florida on April 1st. They are Republican districts. But we still should try to fight for those seats. It is a long shot, but we have to fight with the political weapons that we have.
I am encouraged that there has been a big back lash at Town Meetings held by Republicans. People are very angry and it is not a partisan anger. Republicans, Democrats, and Independents are furious and the Members of Congress are hearing it. There may be a mass political uprising that the Republicans in Congress may not be able to ignore. So there are two things- a mass mobilization of the American people, and a response from the Members of Congress. When the Republicans become more afraid of their own voters than Trump, there might be some movement. Congress may then push back against Trump Musk. It is a long shot, but we need to try to pursue any and all avenues available to us.

(2,695 posts)Impeachment requires the Republican Party to initiate the impeachment and then vote yes in both houses. Yes, this would be the best means, however I believe we are past impeachment. The Republican Party is now a terrorist group. The Republican Party has ALWAYS hated our Constitution.
Unless the impeachment process takes less than a week, Trump and his terrorists will do anything to prevent it and will cause extreme harm - more than they are already doing.
They are 100% in on killing our country. And good people of all parties must step up.
If they steal Social Security and/or Medicare and/or Medicaid - do you think millions of people will just take it? No fucking way.

But it also needs to be understood by the public at large. One of the only ways that we might get Republicans in the Congress to budge is if there is a non-partisan mass mobilization of outrage from the American people. I think that we are seeing the beginnings of that with these Town Halls where Republican Members of Congress are getting a furious response from their constituents, including many Republican and Conservative voters. If Republicans in Congress become more afraid of their own voters than they are of Trump, there might be some movement in Congress and some pushback against Trump Musk.
And we should note that the Republican majority in the House is the slimmest majority in the past 100 years. We need just a few Republicans to change positions. Also, there are two special elections for the House in Florida on April 1st. The districts are pretty solidly Republican, but we should contest them anyway. People are pissed and angry, so even Republicans will need to wake up and respond or face the wrath of the voters. And the anger is cutting across party lines and ideological lines-- Republicans, Conservatives, Democrats, Progressives, and Independents are all getting very angry at what is going on with Trump Musk and the Federal Government. Their slash and burn policies are not very popular at all with the public. Anyway, thanks for commenting.
