Trump and Elon Musk are floating 'DOGE dividends.' Low-income Americans might not benefit.

James Fishback said the whole idea came to him in a recent dream: Send American taxpayers dividend checks with whatever money Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency saves as it dismantles parts of the federal government.

-snip-

But if Trump follows through with the plan as Fishback envisions it, low-income Americans may not benefit.

-snip-

In his proposal, Fishback starts from the presumption that DOGE will achieve $2 trillion in cuts to the government. He takes 20% of those savings, or $400 billion, and divides them among 79 million taxpaying households, to receive $5,000 each. Importantly, the rebate would be sent only to households that are net-income taxpayers — people who pay more in taxes than they get back — with lower-income Americans not qualifying for the return. According to the Pew Research Center, most Americans who have an adjusted gross income of under $40,000 pay effectively no federal income tax.

-snip-

In an interview, Fishback said the dividend only going to households above a certain income threshold should ease concerns about any inflationary pressure the rebates would cause, adding that the pandemic-era checks were sent “indiscriminately.”

The problem with these so-called rebates is this....Last time every incarcerated inmate in the country got all three COVID checks...Triple life sentences, child molesters, everybody... People that had been in prison for decades got it just like me and my neighbors got it.

Many hadn't paid taxes in decades. I know because I helped hand some of the forms out in one facility.

Damndest thing I ever saw.

Merely bait on a hook dangling in front of the mouth-breathers. It's not possible, and it's a stupid idea.

High-income households should have been excluded, not low-income. But that's who republicons work for . . . Although, I do wish future "rebates" or whatever were distributed that way - per household, not per person. As a certified lonely old loser, I've gotten tired of getting a fraction of my neighbors just because I'm alone.

... and explode the deficit again, like under Trump 1.0.

And that's assuming they even do actually cut checks, rather than just promising.

Another divisive dog whistle to pit the "hard working taxpayer" against the poor people "takers" who don't earn enough to pay taxes.

He has no allies, no economic partners, and is about to run up a 4.5 trillion dollar deficit. On top of that, let's print money and hand it out to people. Hello inflation.

Trump might be the dumbest person alive. Oh wait, Elon Musk exists. So maybe second dumbest.

I had a dream back in the 1970's that I was Grace Slicks groupie on Jefferson Airplanes Midwest Summer Tour.

This is like "Infrastructure Week", or "ending COVID very quickly", or "Building Las Vegas Gaza Edition".

The absolute worse thing that ever happened to this country is treating moronic idiots like they are serious people!

In a sane world, we wouldn't even be required to acknowledge that Donnie Dipshit existed, let alone waste our fucking time on the shit spewing from his face anus.

Does anyone with more than half a brain really think these grifters will just give away any of the money they are trying to steal?

What are they, philanthropists now? Suddenly they care about someone other than themselves?

It's a smokescreen, a distraction. Don't give it any oxygen. Rule number one, do not feed the trolls.
