'Have absolutely no illusions': Incoming German leader sends Europe a warning about Trump

Friedrich Merz, the leader of the center-right Christian Democratic Union in Germany, wasted no time after his party's victory in national elections warning about the dangers posed by President Donald Trump and X owner Elon Musk.

Politico reports that Merz on Sunday argued that Europeans needed to make a break from the United States, which he said could no longer guarantee their continent's security as it had done for the last 80 years.

This could mean coordinating nuclear weapons programs with the United Kingdom and France, he said, and potentially even the disbanding of the North Atlantic Treaty Alliance (NATO).

Merz even went so far as to imply that the United States under Trump was essentially on the same side as Russia when it comes to geopolitical affairs...

Within two years, the EU will be a full federal republic.

The only way other European nations will be able to handle a nuclear armed Germany is under the umbrella of French and possibly British nukes. Merz is on target with that idea.

But they’ll need to rethink their alliances and mutual defense. Maybe the UK and Canada can join them.

I’m eligible for an Italian passport, which may someday again mean being allowed to live in the UK visa free. Hopefully.

The Republican Party. A trash can in every congressional district. Spineless, selfish, zero patriotism. Zero leadership skills, zero management skills. But big checks with all the perks. The clowns have already been sent in.

will be to try to get Marine Le Pen in office in France and someone from the far right in the UK. Hopefully, that won't happen and Europe will keep it together and the US will be able to return in 4 years.

I expect that Europeans will deem it most unwise to trust their fate to the fickle American electorate.

to see what Trump is doing to destroy the relationship with our allies. What a slap in the face to all the people who have fought for this country. I just have no words to describe how I'm feeling right now.
