Trump Starts Second Term as President with 43% Overall Job Approval Rating
A total of 43% of Americans say they approve of the way Donald Trump is handling his job as president and 51% say they disapprove of the way Trump is handling his job according to the latest survey from the American Research Group.
In February 2017, after Trump's first month as president, 43% approved of the way Trump was handling his job as president and 51% disapproved.
When it comes to Trump's handling of the economy, 38% of Americans approve and 56% disapprove.
In February 2017, 43% approved of the way Trump was handling the economy and 50% disapproved.
So overall, Trump is at about the same polling point as he was in 2017 (-8%). But on the economy, he is now at -18%. (In 2017, that was just -7%).
And keep in mind, 2 of his most harmful policies for the economy (Tariffs & Mass Deportation) haven't really been implemented significantly yet. Also, the fallout of all these mass layoffs of government employees will have a significant negative impact which hasn't really been felt yet. And then when you add in the massive cuts to Medicaid which seem sure to happen plus possible significant cuts to Medicare, Social Security and Food Stamps, we're just about guaranteed to be in a massive recession as early as late spring or early summer.

But it not mattering also doesn't matter because come midterms, they will get swept out of power like they did in 2018.
Spoiler alert: Republicans are not and never were going to be the ones to save us.

His congress can go down in flames, but he wont, because he doesnt have a need to seek approval.

(9,997 posts)and a net -15% or more. That may still seem too high, but when you consider historical polling of all Presidents in the past 70 years, it's almost unbelievably bad.
Other than first term Trump, the worst net approval of any President as of early March was Obama in his 2nd term at +5 as of 03-04-13. George W. Bush in his 2nd term was at +8 as of 03-07-05. Biden was at +12 as of 03-01-21. Reagan in his 2nd term was at +19 as of 03-08-85. And Clinton was at +19 as of 03-12-93.
There has been nobody anywhere near as unpopular this early into a Presidential term as Trump is now.
All polling data are apparently from Gallup. Gallup had Trump at -6 as of 2-16-25.
