(54,983 posts)According to KREM, Sheriff Norris, who was present to lead the Pledge of Allegiance, said he stepped away during the incident to escort another person out due to what he described as an "active threat" against one of the legislators. He said Borrenpohl was already on the ground when he returned.
KTVB obtained a video that shows Sheriff Norris directly in front of Borrenpohl, grabbing her and telling her to leave before directing the unnamed "security" to remove her:

"Look at this little girl over here, everyone. Look at her!" the speaker pointed.
"Women deserve a voice!" Teresa Borrenpohl cried as 3 unidentified men dragged her out of the high school auditorium.
In the video, Kootenai County Sheriff Bob Norris is seen telling her to "get up or be arrested."
Teresa Borrenpohl was cited for trespassing & battery by Coeur dAlene Police.

You can even lie your ass off to your constituency, get elected on false pretenses, and it all falls under "freedom of speech" and "caveat emptor."

(15,368 posts)First of all, she has raised over $100k. That is more than any lawyer would want for a retainer.
Secondly, this is a case for damages. Most lawyers would take it on a contingency basis, requiring a few thousand dollars for initial expenses, if even that.
I don't begrudge her the money. Just that it is not needed for that purpose.

Yes, I spent way too much time reading up on this story last night. The worst part -- OK, maybe not the worst, but most depressing part -- was that a bunch of the town hall attendees applauded when they dragged the woman out. Imaging the wall to wall coverage it would have gotten on FNC if any tea partier in 2009 had been dragged out like that. (And frankly, progressive media hasn't covered this with the same vigor we'd see on the other side.)

(43,165 posts)in this debacle with trump, which I do believe will be over soon, is that Americans don't know much about their Constitution or their rights in a democracy.
When trump first started with his executive orders, he had America in a panic. People were terrified.
In my house, where we are fairly sophisticated about the law, we just laughed at the idiot and predicted a flood of lawsuits. And what has happened? A flood of lawsuits.
What is even more incomprehensible is that we have a "president" who doesn't even know the basics of the law! And his right-hand goon doesn't, either. Musk was indignant that they had to face up to the courts. They attacked judicial authority!
It's like they never heard of the division of power designed by our country's founders.
Im hoping people will continue to empower themselves, act and resist and thus understand what democracy looks like.
The richest man in the world is still my equal according to the constitution.

(24,722 posts)should have a plan regarding what we will do when we personally witness violence. What we will do, how we can assist a victim, how we will bear witness. People just sat and watched this whole thing go down. A man sitting next to Dr. Borrenpohl got up at the request of the thugs so that they could have better access to her. They would have had a harder time had he stayed in his seat and refused to move. That takes personal courage.
It's easy to say what we would do in a situation like this and its harder to stand up that one might think when faced with violence. Think about it
make a plan.

Obviously, local law enforcement won't do anything to stop this sort of thing; they're usually part of the problem. Civil suits are the only (legal) way for Americans to make sure these people suffer consequences for their actions. Sue the motherfuckers.
