I don't get it: Either Musk is in charge or he's not

Last edited Tue Feb 25, 2025, 01:02 AM - Edit history (1)

Trump says that Elon Musk has no authority, he only makes recommendations to the President. Yet, Musk directly emails 2 million government employees, demanding evaluation information and threatening termination if they don't comply.

I had a position in which I was responsible for making recommendations to an executive. I would never be allowed to directly email subordinates. That responsibility would vest in the immediate superiors of the employees or the lead executive. Recommending means recommending, not acting independently and certainly I would not have the authority to act on my own.

Trump thrives in chaos and dysfunction; in this case Musk’s authority absent authority.

Trump thinks he's being 'clever,' he's not.

We saw this during Trump’s first term, where almost every official was ‘acting’ without Senate confirmation.

It’s Trump ridiculous, wrongheaded way of trying to make the executive branch function like a private company – Trump’s private company.

It sounds like setting up protection against liability by saying you're not in charge. But you are liable whether you dictate terms and enforce them or you're "just following orders".

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is again asked who the DOGE Administrator is since it's been stated in court that it's not Elon Musk:

"I'm not going to reveal name of that individual from this podium...but we've been incredibly transparent about the way DOGE is working."

What a farce.
