Musk is now claiming it was a ruse. The purpose of it being a ruse was not disclosed prior to the data being collected.

(61,040 posts)Even for extreme small government Republicans, Musk's firings have been very poorly executed. Between his team of young computer "experts", the many episodes of firing large numbers of people in essential positions and then scrambling to get them back and the very questionable authority for him to make these decisions without any consulting of the Senate approved people leading the organizations, this has been so destructive people should be asking if breaking things is his goal or if he is really that incompetent.
Arguments could be made for either destructive or incompetent or even both.
When will the Republican House or Senate or the various cabinet officers demand that Musk has to go. He is after all usurping the powers that they legally have. His power is all from Trump. Maybe the Republicans should remember how they complained about ANY UNELECTED czar.

(18,366 posts)At the end of the day this is going to cost the government billions (not save billions). I hated losing my job, but at least my employer was efficient and professional about it.
My BIL is a maintenance worker in a VA hospital. Needless to say he is very concerned. He is also a veteran.

(61,040 posts)It might be that the VA will be the step too far. Even in these very polarized times, support for the VA has been a rare bipartisan area of agreement.

(81,948 posts)There was more than one motive.
Mush will feed it all into AI and see if they can get any information of use to him or Putin.
Reasons to fire employees, incriminating evidence, classified info, business secrets, etc.

(5,834 posts)All he has succeeded in is creating more delays in processing of Social Security claims and other important functions we rely on. Never thought we would have to deal with a power mad unelected co-President with even more incompetence, contempt and ruthless cruelty than the elected one.
No doubt he was completely serious trying to usurp agencies' chain of command over employees until even their own agency heads refused to comply so he is saving face until he comes up with his next outrageous demands.
