Some parts of Xshitter are vile, racist, ugly crap,,,and some here continue to rationalize
that too many things at Xshitter they like, so they continue to use Xshitter.
WTF? You are then supporting the owner of Xshitter. PERIOD!
-
How can ANY person continue to utilize, and continue to post at a site owned by the very person
who is dismantling the entire US government !!
Same with using AMAZON.. STOP IT !!
OR if an elected Democratic member of Congress so choses ,,, just abandon their account on
that racist Shit site, and DO NOT POST THERE EVER AGAIN.
BlueSky May not be perfect,
But HOW IN THE HELL CAN ANY DEMOCRAT MEMBERS OF CONGRESS
continue their de facto support of Musk by continuing at Xitter

(18,585 posts)X runs the gamut from pure trash to the latest, most up to date news on Earth.
Remember... YOU control what you see on X.
Follow the right people, BTW ALL major DEMS are on X and use it as their primary communication media.
And guess what? 90% of X isn't politics...
Where would I follow Mary Beard without X? She isn't active anywhere else.
BTW it's DEMOCRATIC MEMBERS...
Did your slip show?

Just because the owner is destroying the country,,,,

DESPICABLE AFRIKANER
Democratic members of Congress should have been the FIRST to leave Shitter.
IF any member of Congress doesnt grasp that simple fact.
THEN they are indeed part of The Problem

(2,733 posts)There is already a critical mass of voices on Bluesky. A person will never miss anything important if they follow a reasonable set of the leading progressives on BSKY. And if there is important information that only appears on Twitter, you will find it referenced or cross-posted in BSKY.
Maybe BSKY will be a shithole in another year, but it is not that way today. Everybody should get the hell out of Twitter and deny those people the pleasure of owning libs.

Unless you want to fight with scum everyday then by all means stay on X.

(73 posts)I read posts here suggesting that we boycott different sites, stores etc. I always wonder how many of those people still use X. Thing is we can always find a reason to not give up something we use and reasons to give up something we don't use or rarely use. I still use Amazon. I hate it and have tried other online shopping sites but none are setup as well as Amazon. I am 72 yrs old and find shopping at Amazon easier. So I figure since I don't use X that makes me even with people who refuse to use Amazon but continue to use X.

So I don't think it is fair to say the site is messed up as a general statement.
Perhaps if you said exactly what problem you are experiencing, there might be a solution.

Here on DU I wish I could auto-trash posts that link to that site. Instead, I've put put some people who compulsively link to it on full ignore.
I figured Jeff Bezos and Amazon would go fully to the dark side if Trump was elected and prepared myself to abandon it. I was going to do it on February 28 to make a statement, but couldn't hold out that long.
When you delete your account at Amazon they ask you to select a reason from a list of options but there were none that say what I really think so I didn't choose any.

(2,500 posts)Plus, as someone pointed out above, BlueSky is a bit of an echo chamber. Politically active people know about it. Your average person on the street likely doesn't.

(40,662 posts)Most of my own political activity is organized through my real world social network. I talk to people face-to-face, on the phone, and via texts.
My little flip phone doesn't do much beyond calls and texts. It does have a camera and I can attach those photos to texts. That's about it.
Scrolling through the site formerly known as twitter, or bluesky, and yes, even DU, is largely a passive activity and numbers don't matter.

(2,500 posts)If politicians want to get their message out then the more eyes who can see it the better. X/Twitter gets those messages out to more eyes. Most people aren't involved in political activity like you or involved in any politics specific social media. Getting the message out to them is more important then it is to get it to you. They aren't catering to you, they are catering the average voter who doesn't pay attention to political websites, doesn't watch political news shows, and doesn't read any political commentary.

(40,662 posts)Television and social media *IS* the problem. This is why our world is burning.
More of both is not the solution.
How bad will things have to get before people see that?

(2,081 posts)I agree. We need to be able to reach outside our own echo chamber.
Whether or not someone wants to post on Twitter or read Twitter posts should be up to them without judgments on their loyalty to the Democratic party. If someone feels strongly that they don't want to see Twitter posts, then block them or don't read them. Like it or not, Twitter is still a much larger platform than BlueSky, and to reach people outside your own echo chamber, you have to go them.
Personally, I rarely go to Twitter anymore as it's become such a right-wing cesspool. On the other hand, I'm grateful our Democratic leaders are posting on both Twitter and Bluesky because I know there is a much larger audience on Twitter. Hopefully they are reaching some undecideds on Twitter who may not be on BlueSky.

(10,759 posts)they have a ton more followers on Twitter. So any message they send on Twitter, will received more eyes.
They are also sending the same messages on BlueSky, but not as many eyes will see that message, because they haven't accumulated as many followers as they have on Twitter.
When the followers numbers on BlueSky, start to look like the numbers on Twitter, then you'll see them abandon their Twitter account and exclusively post on BlueSky.
That's how I see it.

(169,202 posts)I have discovered that many of them are also on Threads and Blue Sky. There is apparently an app that lets people with these different social media entities, post on one and it instantly goes out on the others that are selected, all at the same time.
Right now, DU only allows displays embeds of Xitter but also recently will display a Threads post. Blue Sky will only show a link.
So if one wants to post something from them that they "see" on Xitter, they could go check to see if it also appears on an alternate and use that to post here.

I really, really do. However, I also feel very strongly that we all have the right to make our own personal choices about these things, and that none of us has the right to police the choices others make about where to shop, post, etc.
I still have a Xitter account, only because the process of deleting turned out to be excessively complicated (deliberately, I'm sure). It turned out to be a multistep process, and I gave up when they started asking for extraneous information, like my phone number. (Really, Eloon? I don't think so. I have more than enough scammers calling me these days; I'm not about to let you sell my number to a million more.
) so I've settled for just continuing to not go there, at least for now.
I also have a Blue Sky account, and I hope it can eventually take the place of Xitter, but realistically, I know that's not going to happen overnight. In the meantime, entities like politicians and news organizations who need to get information out quickly and efficiently are going to continue to use what works for them. It's nice to see more and more of them signing on to and using Blue Sky, but it's very unrealistic, imo, to expect them to immediately leave Xitter entirely. Blue Sky is growing fast, but it still doesn't have the ability to reach as many people as Xitter does.
I'm hoping Xitter will eventually be abandoned by everyone except Nazis and other crazies, but any transition is going to be a gradual one. That's just how things like this work.

(14,769 posts)This was in the middle of me complaining that he, and most of the rest of our side, isn't doing enough -- or at least not telling us what he's doing. And my representative is one of the most progressive members of the House (Jimmy Gomez).
His office said "well, he posts on Twitter what he's working on."
"And why is he even using that Nazi's site, anyhow?"
"He feels it's important to reach as many people as possible."
"Okey, but why isn't he also posting on Bluesky, which has the benefit of having progressive users?"
I finally ended the call A couple minutes later by thanking her for letting me rant for a bit.
