...when asked by the BBC's Chris Mason if he still thinks Ukraine's President Zelensky is a dictator - Trump replied:
"Did I say that? I can't believe I said that. Next question"
For context: Following criticism from Zelensky on the meeting held between the US and Russia last week, Trump described the Ukrainian leader as a "dictator" - echoing Russia's claims...

This response was particularly misleading because, his answer was brusque and dismissive.
He can't have it both ways, Either he forgot his own demagoguery, or he's trying to disown it.
He wouldn't be the first inveterate liar who can't keep track of his own demagoguery.

(34,942 posts)It has long been one of his favorite tactics for trying to weasel his way out something negative. He'll pretend it didn't happen, and try to make the other person look like the liar.

Either he can't keep track of his lies, like most people who lie reflexively, or his dementia is getting worse.

His base will insist they know what he really thinks.

(94,389 posts)...conspiracy theories aside, he's a demented old man who is in above his head where ever he goes and just bullshits his way around.
The clumsiness in which he throws his rhetoric around is matched by the media's fecklessness in calling him on it.

(5,399 posts)or just a pathetic attempt to avoid responsibility for his earlier statement? Wants to make it seem like he didn't mean it like it sounded or that he was misquoted Same game he always plays. He took heat for it even from the NY Post, so he's doing his best to deflect it. He thinks all of us are as gullible as his cult members.

(6,507 posts)statement regarding how the EU has "screwed" the U.S. Trump paused, and said, "was THAT word used?" She replied that she thought so. (It had been.) But he claimed not to recall that.
So he's twice denied statements he made this week. If Biden had done that, we'd be hearing about it all day long every day. Whether djt is playing everybody or not, we need to point out that his mental faculties are declining.

(9,152 posts)and the impossibility of holding elections in wartime:
...
The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, passed a resolution entitled "Statement of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Support for Democracy in Ukraine in Conditions of Russian Aggression" on February 25 that affirms Zelensky's presidency and mandates that elections cannot be held during periods of martial law.
The resolution stated that Kyiv would hold elections "after comprehensive, just and sustainable peace is ensured on its territory." It also asserted that "it is Vladimir Putin who is responsible for the fact that it is currently impossible to organize free, transparent and democratic elections in Ukraine."
The parliament also disputed recent statements questioning the legitimacy of Zelensky's presidency by Trump and Putin, and stated that he was "elected in free, transparent, democratic elections," adding, "His mandate is not questioned by the Ukrainian people and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine."
The Verkhovna Rada did not have enough votes to pass the resolution on the first reading, but during the second, it was supported by 268 members, while 12 abstained from voting and none voted against, according to the Kyiv Independent.

I doubt Trump would fare so well if a vote was held on his tenure in the US legislature.
