Elon Musk plans to destroy Social Security

In an interview with Joe Rogan that aired last night, Elon Musk claimed that Social Security is "the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time" and said he intends to dismantle it. Musk laid out his plan in vivid detail, starting with the illegal firing of thousands of Social Security staffers who manage the payments system and ensure beneficiaries get their checks on time.

The richest man in the world wants to destroy the most important source of income for retired people, who have paid into Social Security their entire working lives. Even more unsettling, Musk's remarks have been completely ignored in mainstream media.

Social Security is my only source of income. And it's a small amount. I have enough money in the bank that I might be able to live for four years, if Social Security disappears.

The only upside to this is I can order my headstone ahead of time.

The only reason I have anything in the bank is because a relative died without a will. So all of the first and second cousins got a small cut of his estate. If not for that I wouldn't make it to 4 months. I absolutely feel for you, and for everyone in this situation.

maybe... and then the utility companies really want their money! We own our home, but the Property tax comes due again in May, along with home insurance and not being able to pay all that will ultimately mean losing our home. I'm hanging on by my fingernails. I've started a new med to try to manage the anxiety, but it's rough.

Kill social security and the number of people who died of Covid in the U.S. will pale in contrast to the number of dead due to no SS. My generation grew up with that assurance it would be there. We had ingrained in us since our teenage years, when most of us started paying into SS. Other generations beyond us have grown up with the thought they were just throwing money away because the program would be dead before they could retire. Only my grandmother and my Mom and Dad really got the benefits due them for having worked and paid into the system. I'm so stressed out over this I can't see straight and one of the thoughts that keeps running in the back of my mind is, "How dare they treat us this way at this point in our lives... How dare they think they can get away with this."

But I notice trump still isn't in jail for stealing and selling National Secrets... so like I said elsewhere, Heaven won't have them, and Hell doesn't want them. So they just keep plaguing us.

They don't understand it's a really simplistic novel that presupposes a comfortable, high tech civilization made up of very few people.
It's an unrealistic view of labor, innovation, and capital.
Just like the rest of those STEM babies. They go for the quick, easy, and certain answer, and don't care about the background, the history of where their ideas come from. They saw the TV shows, read the books and comics, and thought all those ideas were new and just for them to exploit in their cleverness.
They dream of being rich princes like the ones in the books Without the responsibility history would have shown them they needed to take on if they would succeed.

MAGAts thought they would not have their faces eaten by leopards. SS is just the tip of the iceberg. Wait till the economy tanks because of them. Wait till there is no produce at the grocery store because of them. And when Mom and Dad have to move in, or Gramma and Gramps have to move in. Wait till they lose their jobs. Wait till they can’t feed their kids because SNAP is gone. Wait till a tornado or hurricane hits their house and they had no idea it was even coming because NWS has been shut down, and oh, look, FEMA is gone so no lodging or food help. Wait till their spouse dies of the flu because they cut off research for the next flu shot. Flying to a job interview? Oh, sorry, mid-air collision because there are no air traffic controllers left, they fired them all. Had a salad with bagged lettuce and died of e-coli? Oh, sorry, FDA was barred from telling you about the contaminated lettuce.

MAGAts are staggeringly stupid, but give them a year or two and they might stumble into the possibility that their beloved cult leader has—OH MY GOD—been lying to them and does not give a shit about them. In fact, he wants them to die.

Employees and their employers contribute money to the fund throughout all the years that the people work at their various jobs.
There is always new money coming in to replace the money being paid out, but the amount coming in is not keeping pace with the amount being paid out each year. Right now, about $176,000 is the maximum amount taxed at 6.2% for both employee and employer.
Based on the cost of living, the number of people receiving Social Security, and the increase in life expectancy, it's not enough to sustain the System indefinitely. I'm not in a position to know what dollar amount would be sufficient, but bring it up a few thousand dollars a year isn't working.
I personally would like to see a much larger yearly increase to compensate for how much would be needed to pay back to the contributors when they reach the age of eligibility...perhaps 2-3 times what it is now.
Musk would rather just see the payout decreased to keep the System solvent, but that would be tragic to the 71 million receiving benefits, many of whom need this money to live in an ever more expensive economy.
I think his real concern is simply that he has to pay that 6.2% tax for each of his employees. To put it in plain terms, he a billionaire who doesn't give a shit about the rest of us...calls us parasites.
If he wants to see the true parasite, he should look in a mirror. He's not paying his way for all the wealth he has acquired because of us. We support him through supporting his companies.

When have the republicans not called Social Security a Ponzi scheme?

Trump does not need his base now.

Musk is the guy Trump wants people to pay attention to and be angry with.

Trump's style has always been that way while he gets his cut of the action.

Trump is getting older every day now.

So, anyone thinking he cares what happens in the future is perhaps wishful thinking.

Look how he is acting on the world stage, revenge and destroying it all before he dies is his greatest orgasm he can have!

Yes, my wife and I depend on Social Security and now just make plans on a monthly basis.

Trump will die that's a fact.

I think Trump, Musk and even Putin have a boss that has given/giving them the script to follow.

What in going on is not just national, it is global.

"Social Security" is what the powers be, do not want the people to have on a global scale......

Sun Mar 2, 2025, 02:05 PM
Mar 2025

O'Malley is speaking here about a temporary shutdown and collapse from the technology being fiddled with by the Musk team.

"O’Malley said DOGE leaders are now making changes at the agency, and significant staff cuts have already led to system outages. Those intermittent IT outages may happen more frequently and for more extended periods of time until there is a “system collapse and an interruption of benefits,” he said."

He is not predicting a total, and permanent, collapse in the next 30 to 90 days.

Also, "For example, if a woman files for a survivor benefit after her husband passes away, she needs to provide a copy of her marriage license. A Social Security employee then needs to code the system to verify they have seen that document and the applicant is eligible for benefits, Hornick said."

EVERYONE, needs to IMMEDIATELY get their papers in order. Get a physical copy of any paperwork from the government. Make sure that it is officially issued and notarized. There is no telling what will happen, but we are sailing into uncharted waters. A few hours spent collecting documents now may save days of hassle later.

Any congressional member backing the removal of social security is politically a walking dead. Millions in this country rely on what they paid in and worked hard most of their lives to be able to have. I will admit, one time social security ratio of payer to payee was about 1-2/1, but now I believe it’s something like 18/. Yes, SS should be helped, but eliminating it will unleash a vigilante movement that may be very hard to put down.

I hope if any type of vote comes up in congress, the democrats MUST insist in a roll call vote. NAMES MUST BE SAID OUT-LOUD AND IN THE RECORD. Once the names are published, sit back and watch, because it won’t be pretty.

158. Elon Musk slams Social Security as a 'Ponzi scheme,' sparking new concerns
Mon Mar 3, 2025, 08:03 PM
Mar 2025

It’s one thing for Musk to peddle bogus claims about imagined Social Security “fraud.” It’s something else when he targets the system itself.

Elon Musk calling Social Security a ‘Ponzi scheme' can't be shrugged off www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddo...

(@jessicamullen.bsky.social) 2025-03-03T22:38:09.940Z

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/elon-musk-slams-social-security-ponzi-scheme-sparking-new-concerns-rcna194538

Elon Musk’s recent social media posts leave little doubt: He has been thinking about Social Security a lot lately. In fact, Donald Trump’s biggest campaign donor and the head of the quasi-governmental DOGE operation keeps tweeting bizarre claims about alleged fraud and “inconsistencies” he thinks he has identified in the Social Security system......

But the problem is not limited to Musk’s falsehoods. After all, the fact that he’s plainly wrong might not be consequential at all: Musk claims to have found “fraud”; reality proves otherwise; and we all move on with our lives. Right?

Well, maybe not. Making matters worse is the apparent fact that the donor helping run the executive branch in 2025 has a problem with the Social Security system itself. USA Today reported:

Elon Musk sharply criticized Social Security in a Friday podcast interview with Joe Rogan, labeling the critical elder benefits program a “Ponzi scheme.” Musk, who is the world’s richest man and an increasingly powerful adviser to President Donald Trump, also described the federal government as “one big pyramid scheme.” Musk is a leading figure in the administration’s effort — largely through the Department of Government Efficiency — to cut costs and dismantle the federal bureaucracy.

And it’s at this point where the offensive becomes tougher to shrug off

Indeed, let’s take stock. Trump has put his top campaign donor in a position of enormous authority, despite Musk’s unfamiliarity with basics of governing. This same donor regularly peddles falsehoods about Social Security, keeps suggesting there are people receiving benefits checks that shouldn’t exist, is helping advance thousands of layoffs at the Social Security administration and, in case that weren’t quite enough, is condemning the structure of the popular social insurance program.

It’d be tough to blame someone who relies on Social Security for feeling a bit nervous right about now.

You don’t need to scratch your head and wonder what’s going on when you see that the Trump administration is decimating Social Security offices and staff,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement. “And you don’t need to ponder what might happen next when Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, says that the tens-of-millions of seniors, families, and children who depend on these earned benefits are part of some scam — because that’s a real threat and a real promise: they are coming for your Social Security.”
