Boehner’s Offer: We’ll Only Raise Taxes On Millionaires If You Let Us Cut Medicare Benefits

Sounds so fair, right? Especially when the tax cuts are EXPIRING ANYWAY!

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) presented his latest offer to President Obama on Friday. Boehner is offering to agree to a tax rate increase on millionaires only if Democrats agree to major cuts in Medicare and Social Security benefits through a possible combination of a benefit-cutting “chained CPI” and hiking the retirement age.

I could live with $500,000 as a floor if there are no major cuts to health care programs. But this is unacceptable and I am glad the president rejected this deal.

Instead lets raise capital gains taxes to 70% with the stipulation that 40% of that increase be used to fund measures to slow down the climate change they have so gleefully funded and profited from creating.
At that point, I would consider the chained CPI.
